Bill from neighbours for tree damage

The wood is in his garden, he said a family member is having it.
If the family member intends burning it on an open fire I hope he knows what he is doing.

I'm hoping that his family friend does intend to burn the wood on an open fire !..then spend all his time with a cricket bat batting the sparks back in before they set fire to his house .

You can do as a friend did when faced with a member of another cultural group who have problems with women, concerning a different "neighbour" issue.
She said "Sir, our domestic arrangements are no concern of yours and if you refuse to speak to me, any negotiation ends here".
At the moment, I gather, you don't have the wood, but you have handed over no money (am I right?) so they can take you to the small claims court if they wish to recover their money. I don't think they will (because of both practical and ideological reasons)
2 things to add: have had Brethren as neighbours and they were lovely
Following an incident where I live, the police told us we did have the right to enter a private garden because there was concern about immediate danger to someone - long story.0 -
It is his boundary line and he said tody he wants to put a 6ft fence up
I'd bet money that this was his plan all along and the storm damage to your trees gave him the opening he wanted to get his own keep-the-infidels-out fence erected in the space.
Make sure that you let him know that following his previous devious behaviour, you will expect him to erect the fence from his own side and that you (and your man) will not countenance him trespassing upon your land.
What a plonker he is to sour neighbourly relations so quickly and so carelessly. I hope that things settle down soon and that peace returns.0 -
He always asks to speak to "my man" !!! He has obviously noted I do not wear a wedding ring and living in sin is a definite no no for brethren. He always carries a leather bound book when he knocks I am assuming it is some sort of prayer book and it is meant to save him from our evilness!!!
I had a similar thing with my neighbour (not brethren though) he was trying to intimidate "my man" into paying for some work that he wants but is not needed, half hour later "my man" told him to talk to me as its my house and he can't agree to anything on my behalf. Cue neighbour stropping off and calling me rude names very loud.
Hence his work will never be done while there is breath in my body,:rotfl:63 mortgage payments to go.

OH went into his garden to rake up leaves from another tree we had down Friday ( brethren had asked this to be done) the logs from the said trees were in his garden waiting for his family member but I hadn't told OH this and I was out all morning. He kindly cleared them to the front of our house with logs from a rotting sweet chestnut tree we removed for anyone to take if they wished. I won't tell you what he said when I told him the brethren wanted the logs. Needless to say they are still sitting outside the front of our garden lol.
We are waiting for our tree man to type us up a quote saying he would have done the job for £300. I will then do a letter and a cheque for £300. Hopefully that will be the end if it and we shall look forward to a nice new fence.
Thank you for every ones comments.0 -

Do the letter and get agreement first. Make sure it's in writing that this is full and final settlement. Then give him the cheque. The last thing you want is for him to cash the cheque then carry on hassling you for more."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
They are have committed criminal damage (by removing trees not on their land) and theft (by taking the wood).
If you are happy with the current situation, I would do no more than offer not to make a criminal complaint if they forget about trying to get money from you.
If this is a boundary to the front of the house, bear in mind that planning permission may be needed for a fence above 1m.0 -
All things considered; they would not get anything off me.
It was an act of God
You have to be careful about growing anything other than fruit trees in your garden, for fear that some busybody might slap a tree preservation order on them.
I've seen that tactic used on someone whose trees had a girth not much bigger than my arm.
There is a concept that if you bring a wild animal onto your land, that is not naturally there (listen up pet owners) then you are responsible for the damage it does if it escapes. This doctrine has been extended to cover a reservoir that a land owner built not knowing (or caring?) that there was coal mine under the ground, and the water in the reservoir broke through into the mine and acting as a wild animal drowned some of the miners.
However I cannot see how something about 18 inches high, and that has been grown by God's sunshine, can ever become "a wild animal" .0 -
I'm sure one of their beliefs isn't that it's ok to rip off non believers. That won't be in the little book he carries and whilst the chief of church may not care what others think, he won't want anything to potentially impact negatively on them.
