  • Two years ago I had 59 conifer trees (about 20ft high cut down and disposed of by a local tree surgeon. I took a couple of days off work and helped him load his trailer with cuttings.

    The bill was around £400.

He has obviously noted I do not wear a wedding ring and living in sin is a definite no no for brethren.

Yet at post #25 you refer to your MIL and your Husband.

I heard chainsaws at 9am and said to my MIL that someone must have a tree down!

My husband got up and dressed and went round

I've got a husband and MIL but don't wear a wedding ring.

    Me neither.

I have been married over twenty years and do not wear a wedding ring. Or if the OP is not married they could feel it is easier or just prefer to refer to her partner as husband etc. Nothing wrong in that - common-law husband/wife used to be fairly common terms.

So he trespassed onto your property, vandalised your trees and stole your wood......I wouldn't pay him anything..
  • You have no responsibility for the trees, if the reason they fell was the wind.

If you had recently had a similar tree fall in the wind, and therefore had a reasonable warning that another could fall, then, yes you have some responsibility.

Give the bill to your insurance company and let them tell your neighbour that it's not your issue.
  • I would say. "Oh your "friend did it for £700? Well my friend would of done it for free. Maybe you should of spoken to me about MY trees before you payed to get them cut down and by the way I want my wood back, thanks"
    Smart price rocks!
