Hi.my friend just recived a letter from jobcentre today saying she must attend "post work program support" appointment, she was on work program for 2 years she is in WARG ESA, what will happen in this "support" appointment ?they push her to apply for job?or take training?can she refuse the training or work etc.. ?she got new support letter from her GP about her mental health problems should she take that letter with her?or they ignore the letter and just carry on pushing her?and how often they going to see her from now on in jobcentre?weekly?monthy?anyone been there?or in this situation?can she ask for telephone appointment? thanks for help
in each area things work differently.
She will likely be given a new agreement to sign, with a few more things to do to look for work, like apply for a few more jobs, send out CVs etc etc , I can't see her getting any more appoinments than 1 every 2 weeks but as said in each area it different.
Yes she should take the letter, and make sure it's included in any agreement she signs, that the jobs she has to apply for have to take into account her condition, she shouldn't be signing a new agreement if it doesn't. as that is all they can do with her condition, is make allowances for her condition in the new agreement.
As for a phone interview, she can ask but I very much doubt they will do it, if she has attended the WP for 2 years, then I can not see a reason why a phone interview is needed now.
Has she considered applying for ESA again? if she is that bad she needs a phone interview etc then applying for ESA maybe the better option, maybe if she has a word with her doctor and see if the doctor agrees she should be on ESA, her doctor agreeing doesn't stand for much but at least she will know the doctor is on her side and that in their opinion she is ill enough, so may stand a chance of getting ESA.0 -

there is no agreement to be signed. they will not be required to apply for jobs or produce a CV.
she may be required to undertake training or voluntary work, whilst these can be mandatory, they are not unreasonable if evidence is provided to show that being required to do certaon things may be damaging to the claimants health0 -
the person in question is on ESA not JSA.

Thanks so how often they call her in to jobcentre? can she refuse training and voluntary work as she is too sick to do that?0 -
how long is a piece of string?
it varies so widely.
she can be mandated to take training or voluntary work under the threat of sanction, but if she has a good enough reason as to why it would be harmful to her condition then she may well be excused.
it would need to be medical evidence rather than her saying she didnt want to do it0 -

As part of my WRAG directed activity I had to take a CV to a careers advice appointment.0 -

yes, if the doctor says it is not advised.
I would tell her not to worry, anything they try and make her do, if she can not do it, tell her to go to her doctor for a letter, that should be enough, as said they can not have her apply for jobs etc, just training, but not even that is she is too unwell for it.
If she gets a good adviser it helps a lot, but the adviser can be not so nice, it just depends where you are in the country and what adviser she gets.0 -
