TV bought from pixmania.co.uk

I ordered a tv from this website last week and noticed that when they started the delivery process it was sent from a warehouse in France.
I felt this was odd and was concerned that the tv would be a model designed for the European market, not the uk so I did some research in the company to find out.
Sounds like they routinely send tv's to the uk, that aren't designed for uk. The power cable is European and it can't find uk freeview.
So, I was wondering what to do. If I refuse delivery, will the item simply be returned to the supplier, and a refund issued? Anyone had experience in buying tv's from abroad? If I use a uk power cable on this tv will it be a different voltage and effect the lifetime of the tv?

Pixmania is owned by DSG [Dixons/Currys] so the plug SHOULD be UK.
However...you better hope nothing goes wrong because !!!!mania are cr4p.
Goggle them or search on MSE and you'll see how sh17 they are.
Avoid at all costs [too late for you but maybe will help others]0 -
I dont believe its owned by dixons group anymore as of last year.
However, their website does say:
under product information in the T&C's.Some products come with 2-pin plugs, adapters from European to UK plugs are supplied with your order. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
All manufacturers and importers are required to ensure that electrical items they supply are fitted with UK three-pin plugs with the proper fuse. The only exceptions to this rule are for certain fixed electric lights, appliances intended to be permanently wired into the mains and appliances with an RCD plug or plug transformer. Distributors and retailers must not sell any appliances without a correct fused plug fitted.
Any standard UK plug fitted must be approved by a notified body and either conforms to BS 1363 or offers an equivalent level of safety. The standard requires that the live and neutral pins on plugs are part insulated so as to prevent shocks when removing plugs from sockets. As an alternative to fitting a standard plug, it is permissible, if the appliance is correctly fitted with a non-UK plug which complies with the provisions of international standard IEC 884-1, to be fitted with a "conversion plug" that has been approved for use in conjunction with the non-UK plug. The "conversion plug" must enclose the non-UK plug, and must only be removable by the use of a tool. The "conversion plug" must be approved by a notified body.
Note that the cnversion plug must enclose the non uk plug and must only be removeable with a tool. Therefore simple two pin to uk three pin adaptors do not comply.0 -
They normally provide something similar to http://www.amazon.co.uk/Euro-Pin-Converter-Plug-Adapter/dp/B000NJ30QO and not a shaver adaptorThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I may be mistaken but I believe the above is based on UK legislation and not european legislation. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

You'd hope (especially a shaver adaptor is normally fused at 1.5 or 2 amp)
but given its pixmania...0 -

Surely it is where you did business and where the company is legally registered?
A lot of my amazon stuff ordered on amazon.co.uk comes from amazon.de and amazon.fr, does that mean that they arent covered?
Is pixmania/DSG not the importer?0 -

Typically an importer would operate within the UK but with goods sourced from outside the UK. Pixmania operate from france by the looks of things so are exporting goods, not importing them. Although the choice of law clause is absent from their T&C's as far as I've read so far (dont say which law governs contracts), there is references to french, european and "international" law.You keep using that word. So I found out it comes with a eu 2 pin plug and an adapter. Pixmania say this configuration has been tested and conforms to regulations. The only issue now is wether it will pick up uk tv on the freeview and apps.
I guess I will have to test it when it arrives.
Should I want to return it, do pixmania have to give me a full refund since the tv isn't described as being a European model and will they have to pay for the courier to pick it up?0 -
Personally, and having heard bad things about Pixmania, I'd be inclined just to cancel anyway and source the TV from a UK based supplier. Surely you can get just a good a deal, or near enough of one.0
