o2 mms charges
Options
As of last week o2 are now charging 29p if you add a smiley to your text, anemia address, put on a header or go over 160 characters. They are desperately trying to blame smartphones but it is them charging us. If you have unlimited texts you are still charged. I have had a 5 hour argument with theming asked why we have not been told of this change. They would not answer the question. BEWARE

No they are not, I add smileys to many of my texts and not been charged, it is more likely your handset, some add emoticons as a gif file hence the message will be sent as mms. If you haven't set the phone to send longer text messages, then the message will transmit as an mms.
Seek and read the manual for your handset to avoid the charges you are getting.0 -
Here is what O2 have on their site.
FAQ
Why are my text messages being sent as MMS (picture messages)?
If you’re using a Smartphone to send text messages to more than one person at the same time, you could be charged the cost of sending an MMS (picture message)
This happens because either:
- The message contains icons, emoticons and symbols or an email address
or
- The way some applications, such as Facebook, integrate with your contact list
To stop this happening, if sending text messages to multiple contacts make sure they don’t include symbols, icons or emoticons.
Also you may want to disable the integration between your contact list and other applications, such as Facebook.I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0 -
One thing to beware of is replying to an MMS you receive by just clicking the reply option - that will generate an MMS reply even if you only want to send a standard text.
I found out (from my son) that you should reply with a new standard text message if that's all you want to send so that you are only charged for that.0 -
can 02 change their terms and conditions mid-contract ?Ade0
-
They haven't it has always been this way - simply it is having to be spelt out due to the number of phones having the 'intelligence' to reformat the text once it knows there is a graphical image to send.
To stop it - simply remove the MMS settings, and this will prevent the inadvertent reformatting. As before, if the customer uses the service it does not matter whether they do this knowingly or not - the cost is theirs alone.0 -
Well this is a new one....
I know this post is old but had to reply
I recently took out a new contract with O2
Shortly after I received a text from O2 to say my charges were £20 more than normal. After speaking to an adviser it emerged that this was because I had sent a group message to tell people my number had changed. A short message with no pictures I might add
Three conversations later they are refusing to credit or help me even though I pay for a service which is unlimited texts
Is there anything I can do about this as surely this is unlawful?0 -
