(Another) posting to Italy thread.

I've been sending parcels to Italy for some time now using Pharos Parcels as recommended to me on here.

Prior to that I had several items sent via Royal Mail which didn't turn up at the other end.

I've now got a DVD to ship which I want to be as sure as possible gets delivered, but can't seem to find what I would call a reasonably priced service to do this.

Does anyone have any recommendations of who to use to send this item with a contents value of approx. £25?

It was Royal Mail "Airsure" and "International Signed For" that I thought were too expensive.

You won't find anything cheaper than RM for a DVD......but you cannot send to Italy via Airsure.

RM Int'l Signed For is now trackable on Poste Italiane, although all our parcels are experiencing a 7 day delay entering Milan

  • this service is mis leading customers, as we have just used it to send an item to spain and I may as well have given it to some punter at the local airport for the information I got back from royal mail. They use the term "tracked" on bullet point 2 of their advert BUT it is nothing more than a notification on the webpage that the item has left the country (which by it's very name is going to happen!??). this is not the dictionary definition of tracked by any means and hence why we think the service is mis leading. it is not good enough that they then try and disclaimer themselves in the small print by NOT guaranteeing any of the service claims, such as delivery times, tracking (!!!!!!!!!!) or signature? in other words why bother? the other product "Airsure" DOES have the tracking side done correctly but it's nowhere near as slick or informative as you would expect from a courier service. Basically both products are poor value compared to their claims. We got our money back from the post office counter after this did not meet expectation, Royal mail on the other hand are still in denial about the issue. the package was delivered within the time frames but alas the whereabouts of said package could only be found out by complaining to them direct, and we are told no chance of seeing a signature.any ideas on an alternative would be greatly entertained

International signed for is not tracked.

Looking for peace of mind you and your customers can share? International Signed For™ requires a signature on delivery, so with a single service you give your customers added confidence and build trust in your business. Choose International Signed For™ when you want:
    • a signature on delivery with online delivery confirmation for some destinations
    • tracking in the UK, at the point your items leave the UK and in some overseas destinations
    • additional compensation options for valuable items.

  • thanks for repeating that?? you agree?
but would you agree the wording in bullet point 2 is mis leading?
When a jar contains rocks, pebbles and sand is it truly full? What about beer?
  • also like to add - we specifically asked for a "trackable service" when purchasing at the post office counter. hence why we got our money back - even they agreed it was mis leading

I agree that tracking stops as soon as it leaves the country- as per the RM webpage:

tracking in the UK, at the point your items leave the UK and in some overseas destinations

The postage sticky thread here on this board explains the issue with these non tracked services- they are useful only for the possibility of adding extra insurance value.

  • it's not even tracked in the UK. it just tells you by means of one message that it has left the UK (like elvis). Hardly tracking as per the dictionary term - much less a token gesture

ISF is in effect an international version of the 'signed for' old 'recorded delivery' service.

    They are NOT tracked services.
  • so we all agree that IS is not tracked....brilliant..do will all agree therefore that the wording on the website can be miss leading. and that the disclaimer with the FAQ is also another great way of avoiding any type of responsibility in to providing said service.
