I'd love to be called for jury service, alas I've not been yet.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I jest - you would be surprised about people falling asleep. I had a bloke next to me who would nod off and the woman net to him and me had to give him a nudge once or twice and he wasn't working any shifts just doing the jury service like we all were.I was using exaggeration to make a point. We’ve had to remove your signature. Unless you are in the civil service, I can't imagine any other employer paying you not to be there and as you can't claim the court for a Saturday, looks like your going to be working.0

My Jury Service recently lasted for a week. My name didn't get picked on the Monday or Tuesday. Was Selected on the Wednesday and the trial finished Friday afternoon (@ Sheriff Court)Member #179 -The 'Save 12k in 2014' Challenge £1740/£50000

Its so boring, if you did get called you would spend half your time reading anything to pass the time, a lot of time waiting just outside the chambers/court room and a fairly small chunk if time actually hearing evidence.
I just managed to get out if a 17 week trial, because I knew one if the people involved in the case, not one if the accused, I think a witness but can't quite remember.
Ended up doing a weeks trial that was supposed to be 3 days, and got let go on the second Monday.63 mortgage payments to go.

If you dont want to do it, buy a badge for a certain "extreme" political party from E-bay and stick it on your lapel and say nothing.
You will be on the bus back home within the hour...Be happy...;)0 -

I've received a letter today summoning me for jury service.
It starts on a Monday, that week I would normally work Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat. All are 4 hour shifts. If I am at court Mon to Fri would I be expected to work the Saturday at work too? Thanks Louise
As part of the form your employer should tick a box to say if you will be paid by them during jury service (some do) and also there should be a box for them to tick to say if you are required to work on the days you are not needed!
As it is normally a two week jury service (case dependant) and it can involve a lot of sitting around or not needed at court for the day until you have a case your employer should say if you are required to work on days not at court, that way if paid by them and not your employer they will only pay the days you are meant to be working but are not able to.
Do take a good book to pass the time if not given a case or picked straight away.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Yes, I've done it twice. Hopefully, never again though!Ms_Chocaholic wrote: »I know someone who's done it twice, jammy beggar!Stompa0 -
Thanks for all your replies, my manager has coded me so I don't have to work the Saturday and I will get paid. I don't need to return to work unless I get discharged before the end if the 2 weeks

I wouldn't go in with the mind-set that you will definitely be picked.
I've been called three times and been sent home the same morning, for all of them.0
