Jury service

Hi,

I've received a letter today summoning me for jury service.
It starts on a Monday, that week I would normally work Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat. All are 4 hour shifts. If I am at court Mon to Fri would I be expected to work the Saturday at work too?

Thanks
Louise

Don't see why not, ask your employer.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • I am now off work until Monday and I have emailed my level 2 manager but no reply.

Surely you want t go into work otherwise you won't get paid. You can only claim expenses for actual losses and its not the courts fault if you don't work the Saturday.

  • My manager would prefer me not to as my work produces statistics and that week being in just for the Saturday would cause the stats to look bad for our team.
I have never been called for jury service.
My hr documents say I get full pay for the time I am away on jury duty,
  • If I have to go in the Saturday or not get paid for that day then so be it :)

How long does the letter say you will be expected to serve? I've known people do only a week and I've heard of some who had to do 12 weeks.

  • The guide says it can last up to 2 weeks but maybe longer. Im just going to give my letter to my manager on Monday then send the form back.

Found this on an old thread.
It is important that jurors are sufficiently fit and alert in order to carry out their important public
duty. Therefore, we would recommend that they should not be made to work night shifts
before they are due in court, or work weekends if this means that they do not have a break
from either jury service or their job for seven days.

The above only mentions 'recommend' .

wow , so you could be sentenced to death by 12 jurors that have just got off a 12 hour night shift and are half asleep :eek::eek:

Surely they would need to be half-asleep to request capital punishment!!! :D
