Meter check

I have just had an extremely rude call from a meter checker, I told him I am out of the house 7am - 7pm mon - fri, so any meter reading/check would need to be done on a Saturday, he told me he doesn't work on a Saturday so I would need to be there in the week & if I don't comply they could apply for forced entry

I have lived here for 13yrs & have never had a problem, I do my meter readings online & if they leave a card I will put them on there & leave it attached to the front door, old meter reader has retired & this chap is awful,

Can they force me to take time off of work for them to meter read?

Are you talking about gas, electric, or both?

Meters need to be seen, if only to make sure you have not bypassed them

    What company are you with?

Most suppliers do Saturday reading, they do not like it, but they do live in the real world

I am afraid the meter reader is correct. If he reports you to Revenue Protection and they do a payment check which reveals low payments or nil payments expect someone turning up at your door who s even ruder than the meter reader. They dont mess about neither , they will ( if needed ) come armed with a warrant of entry and charge you for the cost. If you are paying the normal amounts you have no worries, they dont want to incur costs of warrants / locksmiths.
I cant understand why you dont make a little effort and give the meter reader 20 seconds to look at the meter, they should be available to work on Saturdays. My company G4S who read for 3 of the big 6 certainly work Saturday, and also up to 8 pm at night The Government have set the rules of 2 year minimum inspections for meters as people get up to illegal horticulture and cheap energy methods .British Gas have been given a 5 year minimum inspection period now, probably because they at least take Revenue Protection seriously
  • perhaps you could read my message properly,

I work, I am out of the house from 7am until 7pm, I put my meter readings online every bill time even when I am not requested to do so, I pay my bill online as soon as my bill is emailed to me,

the card he has written on even has times on it until 8pm & Saturdays but he said he does not work then

Eon readers also def work on Saturday, maybe not him, but they could pass it on to another one. We are all employed on a 37 hours flexi to include the hours of between 8 am to 8pm Monday to Saturday
  • my point exactly, he is being a knob!

    Hi aldaniti

I'm sorry our meter reader caused offence. Just to confirm what others have said, we can certainly book an appointment to check your meter on a Saturday.

As above, we need to check meters at least once every 2 years. This is to make sure they're accurate and safe. Outside of this, we're happy to accept readings from customers.

The only other times we'll need to see a meter is where discrepancies/faults are brought to our attention.

Sorry again our meter reader upset you.

You mean take a read, as the reader isnt qualified todo anything else.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

We are not rude, just dont take any none sense. If people go about been as obstructive as possible, although maybe inocent just raise a right to inspect notification from the supplier.

Yes chanz4, to take readings. Anything else would need an engineer.

    Sorry not clear before.
