Scared i cant have children

I'm almost 29 and we have been doing the deed regularly for about 13 months with no success.
We have been pregnant before (10 years ago, which resulted in miscarriage) then only started trying again just over a year ago.
I have regular cycles, but AF only normally lasts 3 days, one day normal and the other days very light, is this normal?

Also, I have been using ovulation strips so have been dtd according to those.

What could be going on? I'm getting really worried now. What am I doing wrong?

  • Your concerned and so you should both go to the Drs - it takes two to create a pregnancy and things can go wrong with either of you.

On the basis you have been pregnant previously and nothing has changed for you from what you can tell then it is unlikely that you simply cannot have kids, it may just be difficult.

There are plenty of tests that the Drs can run on the pair of you to try and work out why you are having issues and it is much better to be getting professional help than worrying about it - which certainly wont help with anything

Get the pair of you off to your GP & start the intrusive, embarassing circus rolling.

Meanwhile, eat healthily, don't loose any weight unless the medics recommend it, take folic acid & get to a library, borrow & read up. The whole process is amazing, & the best cure for fear is knowledge.

I'd suggest laying off the ovulation strips & just reassuring each other you love them anyway whilst the medics have a prod...

Oh & vent to us rather than family etc as we keep secrets a bit better?!

We can't give medical advice on here. As you have been trying for over a year you should see your GP. Good luck.
  • Go to the GP :)

Whilst still lying down, stick your legs in the air post coital. You'll be preggers in no time.

It's been a year so you should just start with the basic tests at the gp.

If you've been doing it every single month in conjunction with the ovulation strips you've given it a good try and they will take you seriously.

As above, can't give medical advice, but thought it was worth pointing out if you're overweight, that might be an issue... or even the ol' 'tight pants' issue if he wears 'em! (Keep him in loose boxers/commando for a while!)

Hope that's not classed as 'medical'!

Its maybe a vicious cycle. Yout think you cannot and the worry of that puts stress on your mind and body so you wont actually be able to.

Easier said than done. But you may need to relax more and let nature do its work.

You do know they grow up dont you :)

We tried for 18 months with the first one (also after a miscarriage) and the second one took 10 months (also had a very short and light period then, but that shouldn't matter as long as you know you ovulate), despite knowing when I ovulate etc. Sometimes it just takes a while. Despite getting everything "right" the chance is quite small each month anyway. But if you're worried, yes, see your GP and hop over the trying to conceive thread. They are a lovely supportive bunch.
