jeez some really unpleasant folk in this thread. This is not about party politics or even politics, its about being a decent human being towards others.
I have no qualms with the policy in general if its applied fairly and does not target the disabled. Any maggot want to tell me that the disabled would qualify for the extra payment should realise they shouldn't damn well have to.
This policy should not affect the disabled, full stop. this policy should not affect parents with joint custody, this policy should not affect those who would gladly take a smaller home but there are non available.
I am so sick to the back teeth of repugnant people justifying a repugnant policy and I have previously voted conservative in every election. Having seen how this bunch treat the disabled, I will never vote for them again. The previous conservative govts actually introduced DLA but this bunch are not conservatives, they are truly unpleasant slime.
So what happens to the disabled in private rentals? They just have to suck it up and pay.
What about disabled who work in social housing do they get a room rebate?0 -
i vote neither toory nor labour ( independant if i can)
labour built some fantastic hospitals/
the Queemx in Romford for instance.
fantastic, state of the art buildings and technology.
but you google it. the care is awful including a woman that died from a ruptured uterus after giving birth that no one noticed"
my middle grandson was in there for 6 weeks agter a PICU stay in st marys.
he received NO physio in all that time./ his splints werent put on as they were supposed to be. his NG tube wasnt flushed resulting in constand upset stomachs.
he was sedated at 7 in the morning ( knocked out for the whole day ) because he was crying and the nurses didnt have enough time to sit and cuddle him for 30 minutes until a family member got to the hospital.
throwing money at something is pointless unless it is run properly0 -

suck up and pay what??? What are you on about.
No one has to pay extra, they are just choosing to hit disabled people who happen to need extra space and get housing benefit.
Lordy, but you know this. The only people I know who defend such a policy with such veracity have connections to the party, most other sane people can see why it stinks.0 -

Suck it up and pay extra rent. A disabled in the private rental sector who NEEDS an extra room don't get additional HB. Ie exactly what you describe above. Ie they get the 1 bedroom rate even if they NEED a second bedroom.
Lordy but you know this, the only people who defend this inequality are simply bonkers. I've always said I would support the extra room payment for disabled but ONLY if they apply to all disabled on a needs basis. So private renters and those paying their rent get the same treatment, of course they won't so guess what they have to suck it up.0 -
i agree that private disabked renters should be allowed the extra room if they need it.
but your apptoavh is saying 'if everyone cant have it then no one can' and so applying the lowest common denominator.
instead of trying to raise the people up that are being poorly treayed, you choose to let another group be pulled down
that isnt fairness, thats laziness0 -

So your complaint is because other disabled people don't get help in the private sector, that its okay to punish the others? Are you really saying that as your reason?
I have never heard such lunacy, if a disabled person needs a second room they should get one. Your logic is because some dont get help, none should. Wow....0 -

in the private sector they get more housing benefit, if they can find a 2 bed flat for the one bed allowance, then they still get to keep the full housing benefit, but in the social sector, even if the rent is less than the allawnce, they will still loose 14%/25%, that is what is unfair, the tories have created a situation where it makes more sense to look for a private rental and claim more housing benefit to the tax payer.
And lets remember what we are talking about here, the 2nd bedroom in a social house is normally the size of a box, we are not talking about allowing them a swimming pool, it's a space not much bigger than a single bed many times.0 -

What's that based on?0 -

Come on, you find a some 2 bedroom bungalow or adapted property in even a relatively ok area for LHA 1 bed rate and I will donate £10 to any charity of your choice.
Never seen one ever.
If its only a box room then how can a second adult use it? Box rooms are legally for a child only in SH. So I guess they need to move anyway if their partner can't legally use it as a bedroom or they'd be overcrowding.0
