  • Oddly enough I don't seem to have much sympathy with the op!

I used to work in a supermarket and neither have I.

The amount of people who came in at 1 minute to 10 to buy booze and when they got to the checkout at 1 minute past 10 and created a fuss because they couldn't buy it.

And as for the alcoholics who stood there until 10 in the morning!

I think the cig papers bit is a red herring, if the tills were closed/cashed up/cashing up you'd likely hit the same response if you'd tried to buy a litre of vodka or postage stamps or razor blades from the same section.

And the poor employee is expected to redo their till count just because the op could not buy their items before the store had closed.
  • A store shut at 9pm. They declared that the store had shut, yet you still tried to buy something like cigarette

Maybe the store was only permitted to be start to offer anything until 9pm?
  • I would have to ask what covers the opening hours of this store.

If my local Morrisons/Waitrose/Lidl sold me ANYTHING after 4 o'clock on a Sunday they are breaking the (English) Law.
  • All this fuss for a packet of rolling papers. I would have to say let it go man. Life is far too short...

That's such a weird law, our stores are open until around 8pm on Sundays, allowing for fewer hours open but still enough. I'm in Scotland though :)

We have sensible opening hours for our stores on Sunday, my local Tesco is open 24 hours, including Sunday, except for booze.

We can only buy booze from 10 till 10 every day.

I used to work in a shop when alcohol sales were after 12pm on sunday and the queues as I was leaving to go home were huge!
