PCN - wrong registration inputed

Hi
I got a PCN as the owner of a vehicle from Excel sent to me on Saturday for parking in Iceland car park Grimsby. This puzzled me as I knew I had piad for a ticket that day. I found the car park ticket in the car and realised that I had put the completely wrong registration on the ticket; my son had driven me and I put my other car reg in instead.
I have emailed them the following:
"I received a PCN from your company today regarding parking in South St Marys Gate car park in Grimsby. I have checked through the details and would like to appeal as a genuine mistake has been made causing the issue of this notice. Although I am the registered owner of the car, I was a passenger in the car on that day and when the car was parked, I got out and paid for a parking ticket for the car. The car that I do drive on a daily basis is an xxxx with the registration number XXXXXXX. After looking at the parking ticket from that day, it appears that I simply put the wrong registration number into the machine. If you would like to check the records for the day, you will see a ticket purchased (number xxxxxx) just after the entry time and that that vehicle for this ticket did not enter the car park that day
I can provide evidence of this through the parking ticket and being the registered owner of a second car.
I would therefore be grateful if you could cancel the PCN based on this appeal "
I immediately recieved an automatic email from Excel stating they will process the appeal if I have included full details or the driver (I have not done so)
What should I do now?
Thanks

wait !
no you should not reveal the driver, no matter what that automated email says
never give these companies ammunition to shoot you with
keep hold of that parking ticket and scan it too
then wait for any reply, they should check the machine and find you are correct and cancel the ticket (yeah right!)
if they fail to cancel, insist on a popla code and spank them at popla0 -
Thanks for the quick response. How long should I wait? The 14 days for the cheaper fine expires on 17/1.
Looking at the ANPR, I overstayed by 2 minutes - should this matter?0 -
they cannot fine you, its a parking charge invoice , not a fine , never was
read the sticky thread called NEWBIES - READ THIS FIRST
wait for their response to your appeal, if it fails , make sure you get a popla code and come back
your charge is actually zero, so pay them zero because their loss is zero0 -

Calm down and read the 'Private parking ticket? Newbies please read this first' sticky thread (at the top of the forum!). I hope you have read the sticky threads as we don't write them for fun! There's a step by step guide on what to do when, in the newbies thread.
Do not respond to the auto-response. Just wait for their rejection letter then send your version of this POPLA appeal (minus the Equality Act paragraph and adapted to suit):

Job done. That's an Excel POPLA appeal about the wrong reg/typo and with the usual other winning points.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

Over 35 days have passed now and I have had no contact from Excel about my appeal (probably because I didn't name the driver). Should I write and email them to confirm that as 28 days have no passed and no response has been recieved that I now consider the PCN to have been revoked unless i hear otherwise within the next 5 working day?0

Why on earth would you give them extra time?0

You can consider it revoked, but as this is an invoice they can chase it for 6 years. It is only revoked when they say it is revoked (if they went to court could you rely on your rejection?). They may not be following their own guidance but remember that this forum's advice is based on the strict letter of the law and so it works both ways. Chasing might just renew their enthusiasm for you. If you get a follow up, you can complain knowing that they haven't asked by their own rule book.0 -
Thanks for the comments. The only reason for conatcting them is partly impatience. When I send them my email as the owner, it was brief and recieved the automated reply:

'This is an automated response notification regarding your appeal/challenge to a Parking Charge Notice.
Please be advised that we acknowledge receipt of your email, and will be responding directly to you in due course. However, prior to doing so we require the following information in advance to enable us to process your appeal/challenge. If you have not already done so, please forward the following information as a matter of urgency, as we are unable to process your appeal/challenge without it:
1) The PARKING NOTICE SERIAL NUMBER This can be found in the top right hand corner of the Notice and will be prefixed, SERIAL No. XL/____________.
2) A FULL POSTAL ADDRESS that we can correspond with, as all decisions are conveyed in a letter to the motorist.
3) The FULL NAME of the motorist.
If you are unable to locate the PARKING NOTICE SERIAL NUMBER we will require the full vehicle registration number of the vehicle to which the NOTICE was served.
Please be advised that Excel Parking Services Ltd cannot accept any responsibility for any increase in the NOTICE CHARGE should YOU fail to provide us with the requested information within 7 (SEVEN) days from the date of this email.
Upon receipt of the required information we will place the NOTICE on hold while the circumstances surrounding the issue of the NOTICE are investigated and the Management team review the contents of your email. Once a decision has been reached, a letter will be issued to the motorist at the identified postal address conveying the outcome of the appeal/challenge. We will advise you in writing of any further course of action you should take, as deemed necessary to support your appeal/challenge.'
Haven't done 2 or 3 in my appeal, so I assume that they will ignore my appeal and very soon send me an updated and increased invoice.
I'll let you know when I hear anything, but I'm sure they won't have forgotten!
Thanks

Dear Excel,
As you have failed to respond to the registered keeper's appeal and provide a POPLA code within the 35 days as specified by your Code of Practice, I now consider this matter closed.
Should you continue to pursue this matter further then formal complaints will be made to the BPA and DVLA and I may consider raising a claim against you in this matter.
It should also be pointed out that there was no loss incurred to either the landowner or Excel by the alleged contravention as the registered keeper has been informed that the driver on the day did indeed purchase a ticket, and that the ANPR photographic evidence depicts an alleged overstay of a mere 2 minutes which is challenged as to its accuracy and that no apparent grace period was given; which is a direct breach of your Code of Practice. It is my contention therefore that this charge is punitive and disproporationate and does not reflect any genuine pre-estimate of loss and that in this instance there was no reasonable cause for the keeper's details to be obtained from the DVLA and that Excel are in breach of their KADOE contract.
In view of the aforementioned, I therefore expect your written confirmation by return that this parking charge has been cancelled.0 -
Thanks - will post and email them that and wait........0
