I want to buy gloves, not shorts!!

Options
Just popped into town to look for some replacement winter clothes, but absolutely nothing in the shops - instead they have spring and summer clothes now, with shorts, t-shirts and swim wear  And we haven't even had winter yet!

Given that I was one of at least 10 people complaining in just one shop, is it really any surprise that Debenhams and M&S are struggling with sales when they don't stock what people actually want to buy at the time they want to buy it

No, I don't want to plan clothes buying 6 months in advance!!

Surely not! I'd heard Creme Eggs were starting to appear, but the big sized ones? Already? In January?!

...oh, they're showing up online as well! Argh!

The small sized creme eggs (the single ones) are in Sainsbury's already, albeit a small display of them.
  • A friend of mine who is in the trade said the Easter Eggs were there in the stockroom over Christmas waiting to be put on display!

Johnandabby - totally agree with that. Its a bugbear of mine too. With our erratic weather as well. As even when its 'summer' we often still need woolies! Come summer all the winter clothes will be back in!

I was in M&S today and didn't see any shorts! Lots of winter clothing - jumpers, long trousers, cardis, long sleeved t's

Perhaps your part of the country is about to have a mini heatwave :D

They also had lots of scrummy Easter goodies too - had them in on the day after Boxing day :T
  • A friend just told me that she saw Easter Eggs in her local Tesco on Christmas Eve. I think my mind just exploded.

I have to be honest, I haven't noticed what clothes are for sale at the moment - but then I've been checking sales online rather than full-priced items in-store.

But you can't buy sunglasses anywhere. Why not? The sun still shines in Winter (now and then). Plus people go on holiday abroad. Madness.

This interests me actually. It's a real problem that shops try to create demand by stocking the next season's wear many months in advance. I've never known a single person who appreciates this and who shops with some unspecified future date in mind. Everyone I know buys something because they want to wear in NOW, not in four months time. Sure, there might be the odd bit you buy in a sale or whatnot but generally speaking people shop for the here and now.

Why do shops do it? I read about someone recently who was launching a new collection (some vaguely famous person - can't remember who) and she said she very much wouldn't be doing this because it annoys the hell out of everyone.

    I agree with you fluffnutter.

On my travels, I've seen Christmas shops that sell tree ornaments and trinkets...........all year round.

I wonder why we've never had a high street shop that sells sunglasses, swimwear, beachwear and sun protection lotion all year round. As you say, even in the depth of winter here.........some (lucky:cool:) people are taking trips and holidays to warmer climes and need to stock up.

The ultra early displays of Christmas goods in September and Easter eggs in January mean that by the time Christmas or Easter arrives..............most of us are fed of seeing it.

As a MASSIVE fan of creme eggs, I'm not too bothered about this. It actually annoys me that they aren't sold all year round, as I have to buy more at Easter, and they never last :o
