iPad to USB?

OK so we now have an iPad, but how do I connect a memory stick?
It is an iPad4 with the small connection on the bottom.

    Short answer: you don't.

What exactly are you trying to do, why do you want to put a memory stick in it?

Should have bought an android tablet if you wanted to do that.

Connect memory stick to another computer and email stuff to yourself, then access emails on iPad. Or use something like dropbox.

Apple don't want you to do that. You're meant to do this stuff on a computer, and a tablet is meant to be a secondary device (OK they're taking over a bit!) Android has better file management, but neither beats a proper desktop OS.

Thanks for replies. I have lots of books on a memory stick I would like to read on the iPad. So it looks like I will put them onto the iPad via my Macbook.
Plus I will want to put pics from my camera and phone onto facebook when away from home and will not have another computer. So can I go direct from the camera to iPhoto? Just reread above, will look at a camera kit.

I am sure a Macbook is compatible with the iPad so should be transferable, but as I don't have any apple products I cannot say for sure.

The iPad is incompatible with android\windows based hardware. Its why I don't buy Apple products.
