    No, it's not rude:D

A 'Scarborough warning' is where the 'punishment' comes before the warning. (Please note, I am not advocating physical punishment of any description:).) It's commonly used in a semi-joking way, "I gave him a Scarborough warning" that kind of thing, to head off any unruly behaviour or disagreements later.
For example, a friend of mine was telling the tale about his Dad, who'd had a couple too many drinks and was acting the fool. I asked my mate what he did - "I gave him a Scarborough warning". In other words, my mate sorted him out straight away rather than warn him and warn him over and over again.

And if you really want the full history behind the phrase...
In April 1557, during the reign of the unpopular Catholic Queen Mary, Thomas Stafford captured Scarborough Castle in a surprise assault, when he and his men entered the castle gatehouse on market day in disguise and overpowered the guards. Thomas proclaimed himself 'Protector of the Realm', and attempted to incite a revolt against the Queen. The revolt failed, lasting only six days. Sir Thomas was captured and taken to Tyburn in London, where he was hanged; meanwhile, in Scarborough, his men were publicly executed, then boiled and tanned. But Thomas Stafford's cunning and rather devious exploits were the ideal subject for ballads and stories, and the phrase 'Scarborough warning' soon entered the lexicon. As the Bishop of Durham wrote in a letter to the Archbishop of York in January 1603:
"When I was in the midst of this discourse, I received a message from my Lord Chamberlain, that it was his Majesty's pleasure that I should preach before him on Sunday next; which Scarborough warning did not only perplex me, but so puzzled me…"
So a 'Scarborough warning' is an attack and a warning — but the attack comes before the warning.

Attack, then warn.... it is not a Yorkshire thing! That Thomas Stafford must have been a southerner! pmsl x

It is very interesting (I studied social history (I am not kidding)) and have been to Scarborough a number of times but not heard of it before.. I can think of a few people I would be tempted to give a Scarborough warning to!!

All a bit crazy here as the builders started the extension on Monday:T
We did not realise how the dust would get everywhere
They are going at a good pace but we want doors with glass in the top half and were being told we have to have plain brown doors as they don't do them with glass at the width we need for a power-chair:mad:
I'm going to find out how much it will cost to get them made if we have no joy as I like the way the light goes through the house down stairs as our old house was so dark.

Have a google as you can get doors most widths. Me and OH (well OH, I held the bits) made some oak doors which have glass at the top, we love them x

Your spot on VT as it's 1000mm wide internal doors.I didn't even think about the weight of the glass:) we now got little mans OT keeping an eye on this.We will make sure ds3 is sorted:cool:

To be honest if just an internal wooden door with glass top half you should be fine. I would recommend a third door hinge just to help with weight.

There is always a way round these things. But I would have though third hinge would fix it and if wooden door frame then I would use hardwood instead of normal soft wood .
I think builders are over worrying and not looking for a solution, extra hinges will do the job as not massively oversized.

In case anyone doesn't know, quidco have launched another cashback mobile app like clicksnap/shopitize etc. It's called CheckoutSmart.

It currently has all the same offers as ClickSnap, plus one more: 50p when you spend £10 in any supermarket.

I read on another thread that you can't claim for the same receipts on ClickSnap *and* CheckoutSmart but I haven't done tests yet.

Just one thing, when registering on CheckoutSmart, it needs a longer/better password than ClickSnap. It kept rejecting my registration until I added a new numbers at the end of the password.

Hope this helps the cashback fiends!!!

Thanks! have just downloaded app and uploaded a receipt I sent clicksnap yesterday that I had left sitting on the side x

Thank you. Same company registered address so could be same system? Seems odd they would launch a similar app ... better that they focus attention on getting back some of the excellent offers they have had in the past (rather than 10p here and there that frankly I cannot be bothered with!).

    Anon

I agree regards 10p. Not enough to make the effort, but it's nice when you also have a coupon AND a price comparison, eg, recently with McCain Wedges...

    AvS, £2 v £1 so £1.10 APG
    50p MOC
    Clicksnap 15p
    TCB 10p [now finished?]
    ..and now possibly CheckoutSmart 15p

We need to get back to Cashback deals like we saw on Corona Extra and San Miquel.
