Someone has asked me to give them some advice - I don't know why, my sum of knowledge is diminishing and most of my info comes from the MSE font of knowledge
Its not something I know anything about and the person says no one seems able to help them so maybe somebody here has some words of wisdom.
What has happened is that this persons parent has died and all the final bills have now been paid and what is left is going to be split between my friend and her siblings, equal shares.
My friend and her husband are on long term invalidity benefit or incapacity benefit - not sure exactly what is called now (and its a not very close friend so I don't like to ask nosey questions) All I know for sure is that some of the benefits they are on are means tested. I don't know how much the inheritance is but it will mean that she will loose the means tested benefits - I am not even sure what these are but I assume its the rent, house rates, free prescriptions - don't know about the mobility car??
I know she has been told that she has to be careful what she spends the money on as the DWP take a very dim view of wanton spending - she has been told that she cant pay off the credit card bill as its in her partners name and not hers.
I don't know how much it is but its enough for them to loose their benefits which I assume is most of their income so I imagine that if they have to allocate money each month to pay the normal bills it will soon disappear and they will be below the level for benefits again before too long.
So has anyone been in this situation and how did it pan out?“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
TrulyMadly wrote: »Assuming we will all have more Greenredeem vouchers than we know what to do with after Jan....thought I might just mention valued opinions. You get vouchers for completing surveys. I find it one of the more reliable sites. I get about £30 a year in M&S vouchers but I'm fussy about which surveys I do.
I've started making a bit more of an effort and since Jan 1st have completed every survey I've been sent....worth £5.50 so far. You can print off your reward when you get a tenner.
It would be good to tie in with Greenredeem.

She needs to declare everything to the DWP, if she is on means tested benefits they will take this into consideration and adjust her benefit entitlement accordingly. On re-application they can look to see where she has spent her money, and have on some occasions adjusted entitlement subject to inappropriate spending. It is a controversial area.100 -

That's what I thought, so DWP can go back on your bank and savings record for years and years???“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove.
