Popped to the Boots sale yesterday. Got stuck in traffic for an hour so was late but got some nice bits. did spend too much but my brother bought all my loo rolls yesterday ( he has a mobile loo business) and my hairdresser bought some and some of my wine lake. So although i spent some i got it back by the end of the day. So my stash is just different.
However it all kicked off at T-time. My younger sister is 58 in January and we had booked to go to Nice to stay at other sister's place. however since we booked she has got the builders in and if we went we would have to stay in a rented flat. Younger sister said she would pay half and i need not pay but i know this would then be chucked at me that she paid. I am trying to get on top of my bills this month so said i would give her my plane fare ( £58.00) and stay home.
Now she has 2 jobs in London next week and there is a day off in between which would mean staying in London. Now usually this would mean being paid about £100.00 for the day off. I was going to talk to her this week about putting my money up this year as nearly everyone who works for her gets paid more than me. She has a very good business and makes good money but has a habit of dropping my money sometimes if she feels she has not made enough profit. I have been putting up with this as I need the money but decided over Xmas i need to deal with it.
So she rang me last night to discuss the trip and it was agreed i would not go and then five minutes later she rang back about the work. She said she would pay me my day rate and £30.00 for the travel day ( down from £50.00!!) and £30.00 for the day off. I for once spoke up and said " You are joking" and she said well i can get someone in London. I said I was going to ask her about money but if that was the case she could get someone else and I would not work for her anymore.
Yes i need the money but i also need my self esteem and pride. So the evening then descended into a million phone calls and texts trying to get me to agree. went to bed at 9.30 and am now exhausted.
    What do you think?

    Well done.

I think she needs to treat you the same as the other staff and if she cannot she needs to employ someone else and realise that she has lost the most loyal and trusting worker she has x She needs you more than you need her xxx

Anyone got any spare green redeem please.tia I was late again for the party
  • Good morning all, sunny here at the moment.

rose28454, I think your sister is taking the pee, but is this cash in hand or through a contract and paid properly with income tax and NI paid? Even if it is cash in hand you are still down but not as much, but you really need to get a contract in place.

As for pet hates - people who put stationary instead of stationery or vice-versa. I have even seen it on official documents. It is not hard to remember which is which - e is for envelope!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Think you did exactly the right thing!! In my opinion, family comes first and if I ran a business and was employing family, then they would be paid the most not the least!! Their could be times when you would ask for a favour, some help on a job for a favour, but only in the knowledge that this would be repaid in the future, and not as a regular thing.

You are right to want to keep you self respect, well done. It can not be an easy thing to have done, but will pay off in the long run, whether working for your sister or not.

My M&S cashback has tracked at 3p? :(

That's right. The 3p is the CB on your purchase (3% of £1) the £20 is a bonus and will show on your account later

she just texted me to say she will give me £30.00 for the travel day ( down from £50.00 but it used to be 1/2 day previously which was about £68.00) and half a day for the day off. Now she pays me £135.00 per day ( which can be between 12 hours and 19 hours ) and £12.00 an hour for bookkeeping and i was asking for £150.00 per day and £15.00 per hour from this month but never even had the chance to ask. Everyone else who works for her gets £150.00 per day except me and one other who is on benefits and gets paid £120.00 cash ( i know have tried to tell her).

When we did the big Jubilee job 2 years ago she set up a seperate limited company for that job but she gave the book keeping to her accountant as she did not want me to know how much she made. i was quite upset at that but later that year when i was doing her other books i was doing the bank rec and found the limited company statement misfiled ( she has no office skills) so I know what she made anyway. She does not know i know that but I am a professional bookkeeper and don't even look at her bottom line. I am all for saving money but I am not led by it. Sometimes last year I had £5.00 in my account but so what.

    Morning all :D

It's hubby's birthday 1st Feb so I'm planning on whisking him away for one night - maximum of 2 hours drive from MK. I want a nice boutique hotel - was going to do Malmaison at Oxford or Hotel Du Vin at Cambridge but been there a few times now so need some inspiration. My fave is the Forbury in Reading. Any Reading people there? What is the Grosvenor Casino like?
The new one is very nice, I have joined and looked around but never actually been, food and drink reasonably priced and quite a bit if entertainment at weekends....
