'Morning Kissjenn,
Great to see you posting. :lovethougRobin, never heard of rice water...I shall give it a go. Meantime it's me and the ginger nuts and copious amounts of anti sickness meds.
Hope rice-water helps as well as the ginger.. It's interesting how different remedies are used in different countries. Might be worth trying boiling up some chunks of ginger root in the rice-water too (Mum wasn't keen on the taste of that combination but she didn't like ginger biccies either. I hoped it would improve the overall effectiveness but as she didn't like it, that experiment failed).Had first infusion yesterday and started the tablets. Felt hunky dory this morning even joked to my agent that I may go back to work...then I took chemo and 30 minutes later the buckets were back.
Often seems to be the second dose which does it.Still early days and I'm also on antibiotics as the Hickman site has infected so maybe I'll feel better when I come off those.
Oh swearwords! Hope they don't have to remove the line..
How does your tum feel about yoghurt? If ok, remember the benefits of probiotics.
In the local supermarket yesterday I found the most amazing six fingered 'yeti-hand' of root ginger; thought of you Kissjenn and couldn't resist putting it in m' trolley, even though it's about three times larger than I'd usually select.
Don't think it will be too much of a challenge to eat before it withers though; last night just chucked a load in with salmon - no fancy sauce couldn't be arrised - just drizzled honey and a drop of balsamic over, then baked in an olive-oil greased foil packet. The cooked discs of ginger were amazing - by far the best part of the meal, although the flavour absorbed by the salmon was excellent too.
..That's my virtual offering for today. Quick, shove-it-in-the-oven easy, delicious and nutritious.
Hope your appointment at Maggie's is a success - DLA forms not too frustrating to fill in..0 -
Hello, I usually read avidly but rarely post, however wanted to suggest Sea Bands to help with nausea.
My husband is having chemo and gets really nauseous which means he can't even face any of my ginger based remedies. The sea bands are sold in chemists and are for sea sickness although the box also refers to chemo sickness. You just pop them on your wrist on your pulse points and you can wear them for as long as you need. Hubby doesn't mind doing this at all as it is non intrusive. Might not be the complete answer but another tool to try.
Sending you my best wishes0 -
Lovely to see you posting KJ xxx
I second the seabands, I wore them when pregnant with DD, I had awful sickness day and night all the way through and although the bands hurt me a little at first (they put pressure on your pulse points) they helped lots!

Lovely to see you posting, KJ - step by step - I'm glad peeps have some ideas about nausea; and that your meds have made a difference too, even if temporary. When I had IBS badly, chamomile tea, or mint tea, used to help, though I'm sure that yours is much, much worse than anything I endured ... sea bands and big rounds of ginger sound wonderful, from what peeps have posted. Hope you're doing okay.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hi KJ,
I've just been catching up.
1) Swear word/s!! Your pragmatic approach and drive for full disclosure is inspiring and at least you know what you're dealing with.
2) I've done the same thing as your SB... I swear I checked in but alas not...
3) Sod your brother. Some people just have a rotten core - you do not need negativity in your life.
4) Sounds like you have some lovely friends and whatever happens your SB will be just fine. He's got a brilliant example in you.[STRIKE]Credit Card 17.9% = £460 paid off 2013[/STRIKE]!

And I'm still pretending my student loan doesn't exist until I earn enough that they ask for it!0 -
Hello all.
Thank you so much for the kind thoughts and ideas. SB lovingly passed on his cold last Friday and I've been a pathetic dishrag since.
Second infusions were today, got up just in time and drove myself there. Temp was too high so we used 3 thermometers til we got the right number. No way was I being sanghai'd for a night. Fairly ran out the door when they finished :rotfl:
So now my pal nausea is back. They're giving me 12 hourly injections 9am/9pm to save me having a driver but the 9pm has well a truly worn off and tablets aren't working. If I phone now it could be hours before they get here...cancer is a pain on the bum.
CT scan is booked for Monday and oncologist appt moved to next Friday. So we'll know the starting point to measure chemo against.
No MSE news as still waiting on SSP to be processed. Have bills to be paid which I'll do tomorrow, however compared to the pressures this time last year I think we're in a much more organised place.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.
