DLA renewal 5 months early!

My DLA expires at end of may 2014, it was awarded for one year.

I was astonished to receive today, a renewal pack, over 5 months early. 'Must return immediately etc etc'

It is a DLA form, no mention of PIP.

How on earth am I to guess how my condition is likely to be 5 months ahead of time?

They must be so far behind, and resorting to this in an effort to catch up.

Just sharing this and interested in any comments.

I thought they did (or used) send them out 6 months in advance. You have to write about how you are now.

DLA FORMS are always sent out 3 to 6 months before renewal never heard of them wanting it back straightaway though.

The renewal period for DLA begins 20 weeks before the end date of the current award, the form is always sent out at this point (20 weeks before end date of award).

You do not have to send the forms back immediately, just as long as you get them back in time for them to review your award.

The renewals seem to have been turned around very quickly recently. There are posts on here which indicate people had a response to their renewals within a couple of weeks.

Mine for example was received by the DWP on 17 December, and I received the new award letter on 27 December and the date on the letter was 19 December, so mine was reviewed within 2 days of receipt of the forms.

My brother sent his in with only 3 weeks left before the end of his claim and his was done within a week.

What with all new claims being dealt with under PIP, it seems the DWP have enough people dealing with those still on DLA to be able to turn around renewals pretty quickly.

Either that or, as has been suggested on here before, they are simply renewing all those claims which remain under DLA in the knowledge that PIP will soon be in place and those who are renewed now will be reviewed under PIP in the next 2-3 years anyway.

Thanks for responding. Im newish to this. I also assumed DLA was now finished and EVERYONE would have to apply for PIP. thus the surprise at getting a dla form.

So glad I kept copies of previous application.

    good luck with the forms

I really HATE doing these forms as theyhighlight what we can't do when we spend so long focussing on what we can.

As mentioned above they are sent out before the claim ends.. my renewal pack was a few months early last time and it caught me unawares.

    Good luck

I requested an upgrade on the mobility element to higher rate and had to do the whole form as if it was a renewal for a complete claim. It's just a paperwork slog really but I can understand it being intimidating to some. That was the end of October and I got the decision 2 weeks later and the new payment in time for Christmas! So, sometimes DWP CAN move their a...s!

You will get some sort of renewal invitation 20 weeks from the end of your existing award. Depending on where you live, this will either be a letter telling you to claim PIP or a DLA claim pack.

At the moment, renewals in London are still going via the DLA system and you're getting close to 20 weeks. I suspect you'll get a DLA claim pack, which you must return to DWP before the end of your existing award.

Any renewal is a complete new claim - you need to provide full information including supporting evidence where available. A new award could be the same rates as before, higher rates or lower rates (including no award at all).

20 weeks from 24 July 2014 is today, 6 March 2014. The PIP postcode map does not show 'natural reassessment' is live is any of the London postcodes, so I would expect you to receive a DLA claim pack very shortly.

However, you must be guided by what turns up in the post - if you get a letter telling you to claim PIP, you must claim PIP.
