I need to find some of the will power the rest of you seem to have. DH brought in a bottle of wine to me tonight. I only just managed to say "no I will have a cranberry juice please".

4/14 AFDs for me please. I really want a double smiley.

He also forgot Ash Wednesday is a meat-free day and made sausages with baked veg. Fortunately, he cooks the sausages separately, so I just put some yummy crumbled cheese on my veg. He was so apologetic, because we had discussed having fish n chips.

I'm such a heathen - I didn't realise Lent had so many rules! Do you go meat-free on Fridays too? Sorry if I'm being intrusive - I find different cultures and faith incredibly interesting:)

I've clocked up another couple of AFDs, taking my total to 8/25, including tonight, which I am very pleased with. Thanks for keeping count Shaggy x

Hi Dizzy, Catholicism used to be much more stringent, it used to be obligatory to eschew meat every Friday, now that applies only during "Holy Days of Obligation" and every Friday of Lent for those over 14 and under 80.

A day of fasting and abstinence allows one main meal and two snacks (not to equal a main meal). So, I had muesli for breakfast, an apple late afternoon and the roast veg n cheese for dinner.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

    Bonus!

I'm completely doped up because I've got a dental appointment with drilling and filling this morning. It's the first time I've taken anything mind-altering since knocking the drinking on the head and, rather sadly for me - it feel absolutely lovely. Really fabulously gorgeous. Thank God I'm not even remotely tempted by it as a way of life but it does make me remember what I liked about being drunk. All plans for today are on hold while I drift about being happily entirely useless. Soz.

    11/29 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.
  • So, I'm attempting to give up alcohol for a month. Firstly, I'm not an alcoholic or dependant on alcohol, the goal is two save some money, to lose some weight and to generally feel better.

I'm a little trepidatious about it to be honest. I don't drink every night, I work full time. I do buy a bottle of wine on Wednesday night and drink a glass and a half on Wednesday night and Thursday night. Friday and Saturday are beer nights, staying up late watching movies, playing computer games with beer.

I think the wine nights are easy enough to avoid, but it's just Friday and Saturdays I'm going to miss. I know it's only for a month though.

Any tips of breaking the habit of drinking would be appreciated!
