And if I can help anyone who's starting out with advice from my experience then all the better. Isn't that what all the best forums do:).

As someone who found your posts particularly helpful, Maman, I have to say I totally agree.
    Thanks Honey Bear.
Since I am not the priest...

Ah, good, a sipper rather than a gulper, then! Or, did you sneak into the vestry to play Priests and Nuns?

Day 14/29 could I have a 'Hay' please?

OH has also had 2AF days as a result of me cutting out so that is a double bonus for me because he was definately drinking too much and It was more difficult for me because he was drinking in front of me.

Yay Yay and Yay again! :T:T:T We found that when I stopped, OH's consumption dropped by two-thirds and has stayed that way. Totally unexpected bonus.

    17/30 please, Six-Year Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.
  • Sorry I meant a "yay" and not a hay!! Thank you Shaggydoo for knowing what I meant!

15/29 today and 4 for my Oh who hasn't and won't set a target but he is sleeping much better and generally not as 'down' as he has been, alcohol does have that affect on him sometimes! So I will include him in my updates if that is ok!?

That's so good to hear. Hopefully he will get to enjoy the better sleep and not feeling down :)

11/21 for me please Shaggy - even though I hadn't had any alcohol yesterday, I had a rubbish night's sleep and woke feeling steam-rollered. I feel betrayed by my body...kidneys ache, eyes feel puffy and have a massive dose of lethargy. Why????

In my drinking days I never felt that much better or different after one night not drinking; it took at least three days (sad to say that didn't happen very often.)

    18/30 please, Shaggy.

    Definitely OK.

It's interesting to hear. My DH still drinks daily but he's definitely cut back. He probably drinks about the same in total as I do but he can have a glass or two and stop whereas I prefer to have AF days and those where I can have what I want (even if I don't want much IYSWIM).

DH is also proud of our healthy eating as he eats Slimming World meals as well;).

13/20 AFDs for yesterday and today. Went out with my sister and three of my cousins last night, but I elected to be taxi driver, as I didn't have the desire to drink nor the cash.

I won't drink today because of tomorrow's parkrun, but the desire is really, really strong as DH is in a dark place, and I'm hiding in the very sunny spare bedroom, avoiding the contaminant effect. I want to run away today.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Sorry to hear that satchmo, you'll have to content yourself with running it off tomorrow for a short while and soaking up the sunshine in the security of your room. I've never asked but has your DH sought professional help?

Thanks Maman, I was so warm in the sunshine that I had a long doze, mmmm.

Yes, DH has had professional help - he had a fantastic psychiatrist in 2013 paid for by his company. Sadly, when DH retired early (with a package that equated to what he would have earned until actual retirement), that ended. The psyc was retiring at around the same time, plus we moved northwards.

The GP here referred him for counselling, which took 24 weeks to materialise, and he's on his 4th session out of 5. Mental Health provision is suffering silent cutbacks.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
