4/12 AFDs, and in no fit state to go for a run (which helps when I'm depressed). I'm having an early night tonight as I didn't sleep much last night. I'll be fit for a run in the morning, which will help.

Husband is severely depressed, and whilst I can understand that, it's still really toxic and hard to live through. I know we'll live through it though.

Thanks for your support, it's greatly appreciated.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Am I allowed to rejoin? If so, it's 2/21 for me. Bit of a game changer the other day, and alcohol and nicotine are no longer part of it. 3rd day ahead, and back to work - still feeling really bad - alcohol and nicotine withdrawal all in one.

Welcome back jimmy! Hope you feel better soon

Satchmo, that sounds really hard. Hope you've managed to go out for a run. It does help so much! I've hurt my foot so can't run at the moment and am going stir crazy!

Shaggy and Fruball, hope your test results are clear! Always hard, waiting for the results.

    9/24 now please!

    Big big hugs Satchmo....

Ditto the hugs to you, Satchmo. Depression is an evil illness, sapping all the colour from life for the sufferer, and energy from those around them.

Hugs to all waiting for test results (including myself - waiting for the results of a routine mammogram as part of the BC screening program - long term readers may remember that I was called back last time and I therefore had 3 scary days of waiting for my follow up appointment which proved to be 100% fine. This was particulary scary as my sister has had BC in the past - although she's great these days too)....

And hugs to you, also, Shaggy, as well as calming vibes.

Jimmy, I'll butt out if this isn't welcome but something sprang to mind when I read your post. If you find yourself climbing the walls and can't function another moment because of withdrawal, and you know you're going to relent may I suggest you have a fag rather than a drink?

It's very difficult stopping both at the same time and there are people who manage it but a fair few find it impossible - I'm hoping your one of the ones that can obviously - but I know from experience that it isn't possible for the majority of us.

My thinking would be that a cigarette will lead to another cigarette and so on but it won't automatically lead to a drink. A drink followed by another drink will lead to a cigarette as well (well, it would in most people's cases), and then you're back to where you started, feeling carp the next morning.

This is coming from someone who loved smoking for 30 years and who eventually managed to stop by going cold turkey having tried acupuncture, hypnosis and patches, and all of those several times. It was just as tough as stopping drinking but in a different way and I couldn't have done both at the same time.

    11/31
    , please Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

That's fine honey bear the more advice, the better. I have an e-cigarette on standby if it gets too much, but I'm really determined to do this on willpower alone. I hope to keep it up long enough to disassociate myself with drinking. I'm thinking at the moment though, if I quit both at the same time, I'm more determined not to let one side fail. I've hosted these addictions at the same time, so I'm going to let them go at the same time! Besides, I need a fresh pair of lungs to be able to get back on the bike :)

    Keep it AF.
