  • Thanks everyone for your support over the last few days and listening to my musings - especially Honey Bear. You've been brilliant as always. Massive congrats on reaching 200 days, just brilliant! :j

Had some devastating news on Tuesday. I went with my dad to pick up his results from a biopsy he had on his prostate and it turns out that he has an aggressive cancer. Such a nasty shock. He's 75 but super fit, has run half marathons until recently. Mum died of cancer 2 years ago and so it's all still very raw and really feels like a nightmare. It was such a horrible day that I sank 3 glasses of wine on the night. It did make me feel better at the time but yesterday I was a mess - hungover, tired and weepy. I gave myself a good talking to and told myself that I have to be strong for my dad to be any use to him, so that's the last time I'll be doing that! An early night last night with no booze and a run on the treadmill this morning and hopefully I'll be ready to fight with him.

Sorry to bring this thread down! Pricey, I have done parkrun on and off over the last year (dad does it religiously every week and even did it on Christmas Day!) I haven't been for a while as recovering from my op but will be back to it a week on Saturday. It's brilliant isn't it, such a great atmosphere and really sets you up for the weekend! And it's another incentive for me not to drink on a Friday night as running and hangovers don't mix for me! :o

8/19 for me now please Shaggy. Have a good day all. x

    11/28 please, Shaggy.

Lovely to see you back Mackeroo, and I'm sorry I didn't say so straight away. I still feel like a newbie, so it felt presumptive to say so straight away to someone who was here before I was.

I'm so sorry to hear your news Chardonnay. Speaking just for me, you're not bringing the thread down. It's something that you're going to have to cope with and as this is a Support Thread I'd have thought the least we can do is be here for you while you come to terms with it, and then deal with it. Wine as a coping strategy is something that I think pretty much everyone here has tried, and some people will continue to have a glass or three as a way to take the edge off it. And then stop after one or two when three doesn't make the next day better, but don't beat yourself up if you struggle with that sometimes. Your news is difficult to deal with and we need ways to cope with things like that. The park run sounds like a great idea - but it's definitely not one for me!
    Better is good enough.

Sorry to hear your news Chardonnay - please don't think you are bringing the thread down - it always helps to have people to 'talk' to in these situations.

Congratulation Honeybear on your 200 days - that's amazing :T:T:T

5/12 for me for last night please shaggy.

That's definitely right. It often helps to rant/moan/think aloud at people you don't have to see in RL. Have a hug chardonnay.

satchmo does park runs too IIRC. I'm far too idle.:o

    AF here again today.

    7 AFDs please Shaggy.

Sorry to hear your news, chardonnay, echoing what everyone else has said, please don't feel that you can't offload on here, and a few glasses of wine was perfectly understandable.
Declaring an early 8/17 for today as I'm going to be offline for the rest of the day.

Sorry to hear your news Chardonnay - Sending hugs and please don't apologise for sharing here. I am sure everyone wants to be as supportive as they can be. Sending ++++++ thoughts for your Dad xxxx

No more AF days to add for me. Will moderate over the weekend and back on it properly next week :) I'm not putting pressure on myself after the week I have had!
  • What awful news Chardonnay. I am so sorry. Absolutely right to keep yourself on the straight and narrow so you can cope with it and give your dad the support he needs.

Shaggy - declaring early for 9/21 afds. Thank youuuuuu xxx

    10/21 AFDs for me tonight.

Chardonnay, so sorry to hear your news: prayers for you and all your family. Yes, I do parkrun and am up to 72 logged runs, I find it so good for stress reduction. I can't run with a hangover now, so Friday nights are easy AFDs.
