Thanks Greycatlady - it has been a very difficult time and normally I know I would of 'drowned my sorrows' with wine if I hadn't been doing this challenge. In the run up to Christmas I was definately drinking to take my mind off things and really found sleeping a problem if I hadn't had a drink. 365days I don't doubt alcohol is a problem in my life which is one of the reasons I am doing this challenge - the girls (22 and 21) were upset because my friends started singing happy birthday at 2 am and my DD2 was in work the next day- I was drinking diet coke at the time as I had had enough! I know that in general when I go out with my friends I drink too much! But I rarely do this in the week (I work full time) and try to keep it to weekends when I don't have my younger kids - I guess what I have written makes me sound like the worst mother in the world!!

Anyway 19/31 AFD's for me today

I was just reflecting what you had written. You don't sound like the worst mother in the world at all. If you were you wouldn't be here.

I'm sure you can get to where you want to be.

When I was drinking I did some awful things as a mother.

Now I am sober, whilst not being a perfect parent (who is?) I am far more aware of the damage my drinking did to my family.

  • I too have done some awful things, turned up at parents evenings clearly under the influence...
My feelings at the moment are that I am going to see January out one short of my target and then confine my drinking to Saturdays. DH takes the kids out on Saturday nights to a young peoples club so I can drink my wine in peace.
I must admit that when I fell off the dryathlon last Saturday I fell off with a large Montipulciano in Pizza Express and it tasted awful. I usually always drink that but I think a few weeks off the sauce has affected my taste buds.

Anyway, I'm declaring another AF day today so 20/31 please shaggy.
Most I've done in years, even when I was pregnant I had a glass on a Friday night!

  • 21/31 please Shaggy.

I'm also looking forward having 3 smilies!
  • I thought I might have declared too early yesterday as I ended up for lunch out with family at a pub. First time I've been in that environment since New Years.

My sister had a glass of white and to my amazement I didn't find myself looking at it longingly. Maybe because it was only lunch with no prospect of settling in for the evening, and I was driving home later in the day and I think after 3 weeks off (longest since adulthood I think) I would've been flat on my back so definitely not worth the risk.

Anyway, my friend Becks Blue was there so disaster averted.

Out to dinner tonight (postponed from last week), at the pub. I'm confident.

In your case it doesn't sound like they will outweigh the one's you've mentioned above.

There does seem to be this belief in society that if you don't drink you are somehow missing out on something amazing. Not sure where that idea came from but I don't buy into it anymore.

Good to have you back 365 hope all going well.
Read this & your follow up note the strength of advertising eh?
Ive always been known as the party animal at 51 its no longer a label I feel comfortable carrying & watching my "friends" as they fall out of the pub like a load of extras from a Beryl Cook painting Im more determined than ever to move on. My OH is a 10 pints a night every night man who refused to join me in my abstinence because drinking is "a laugh" & how boring was I going to be? Admitted last night that the only differences he has noticed have been in the positive ie the onesI listed before, plus the fact that its ok for me to drive at anytime!! I have informed him I have no inclination to change the label from party animal to that of taxi driver!!!! He also had a dry night last night & we had a lovely evening that we could both remember this morning. Fingers crossed he might slowly cut down but no breath holding :)
    22/31 please Shaggy
Can anyone please tell me how many weeks its said to take to break a habit & start a new one?
Thank you everyone for being here its a far from easy trip & those that have fallen off the bus don't worry still plenty of seats jump back on the scenery is fantastic x

Declaring early for tonight please 22/31 as working til 10. Although these weren't always AF shifts in the past :o I think I'm safe declaring it will be tonight. The end of January is so close now and I'm so pleased that we have done this - my DS 20 has too :T
