The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 13

Hello!
I am feeling much happier regarding my alcohol intake. I am only drinking once a week at the moment. I had so many invites to different gatherings and this is very typical during this time of the year and I said no! to most of them....
RegardsNo debts 🙌0 -
Nope, cracked already and me and mum shared a bottle of wine. Gosh, I'm useless. Not even sure why I caved. But ex had girls for dinner and mum met me from the station (she could do this as she didn't have my girls and she minds them while I'm at work).
Feel bad about it, but still better than I normally do, so not going to beat myself up over it. 3 days so far this week AF is not that bad. Just cos I don't meet my targets first time, doesn't mean I should just give up right?!
And yes, I have planned my targets next month around Xmas. I figured I should/could go without Mon-Fri and then indulge the other days, cept for the special days and I have one Xmas dinner at work where it would be rude not to, especially as it's free, in London and in a posh restaurant. It's not like I go completely overboard (well most days I don't), but still would like a few more AF days than I have recently.
I know all the above sounds like excuses and they are excuses. But hey ho, onward and upward!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I'm sure you'll feel fabulous to hit your target and manage a whole week without alcohol.
You have been incredibly brave and courageous.
I feel bad now considering my last post. My mum did say "I thought you were giving up."
But I still want to be able to drink, just in moderation. So, two glasses of wine on a week night, that's not too bad, is it?!
I just want to be able to cut down and not go mad on the stuff like it's going out of fashion!
Again, I've just read that back and it's all excuses, excuses blah blah. I will be better. Even if I do what I did this week, it's a start, right? No wine half the week.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

How miserably?;)
Rather so in days, not so much in quantity.:beer:At least you're posting on here so all is not lost. Maybe draw a line under November and start afresh in December. That's what I've done in the past.
18/19 for tonight please.
I wish life were as simple as drawing a line under November and starting afresh in December!graemecarter wrote: »Keep trying Alex. We're behind you.
Still a few days left this month so you can start December on a high.
Good luck my friend.
Thank you.
I will keep trying, as I should with life.2018 totals:

So here goes again! Looking for advice on how to break the cycle, I can do one or two nights then fall off the wagon, really need to get under control. Any tips or advice would be appreciated because I am no use on my own. For health, money and for the sake of my kids I need to change, but am finding it difficult. I also hate myself every morning for being stupid. Thanks.xx0

Pollyanna, if you've been drinking every night for quite a while, that's a heck of a habit to break. Three nights AF in a row is a terrific start, and you should be proud of making the decision to join us on this thread, and the fact that you now know you can go three nights in a row. Don't beat yourself up. You had a couple of glasses of wine and I hope you enjoyed them.
Alex, it sounds as though you're struggling this month but it's good to see you posting. I'd offer you a (hug) but you might think that was a little forward. I hope December's looking a little brighter for you.
27/30 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -

Hi Mrs Harvey:wave:
It sounds like you have tried either not drinking, or to moderate.
I myself tried for years to 'do something' about my drinking. I could sometimes have a good week, but then undo all the work next week by getting back 'on it'.
My lack of control made me miserable and I wished I could drink like normal people and just have a few and stop, or take it or leave it.
However, that wasn't to be. I was 'no use on my own' as well. I got help for my drinking, and so far, that's been successful for me. When I have other problems in my life (like a sore tooth, a bad back, a dispute with the neighbours, etc) I seek help and see a dentist, osteopath, laywer, etc.
My drinking was a problem that I needed help with.
There's no shame in asking for help be it the GP, having CBT, going to AA, family, church, etc
You're not alone and admitting that you're drinking too much and it's problematical is a massive first step, so well done you.:T0 -
Another one for me so 4/7 please Shaggy. Somehow I now expect that I am entitled to have a really good night's sleep every night now and I feel cheated this morning. My skin is ready less itchy/tingly which is good. I am realising that my body has a high level of background pain, muscle aches etc and as I drink less I really notice this a lot more, especially out of work when I'm relaxing more.0

Afternoon :hello:
2 more AFDs for Wednesday & Thursday.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0
