Sorry you're having a tough time Satchmo, I hope you're feeling better today.

HB It is hard when alcohol is around isn't it. It all seems so unfair when other people can have a normal relationship with alcohol and we seem to struggle with it. It doesn't help with all the Christmas alcohol adverts on the tv at the minute. Or is it that we notice them more because we're not drinking???

I'm doing ok at the minute, the real test will be next weekend when a few of us are going to a charity do and everyone will be drinking except me.

    5/13 please Shaggy.

    Have a good day all.
  • 5/30 for me please :)

Going Christmas pressie shopping later which means in the past I would have had a Baileys afterwards, however today I will be enjoying a hot chocolate. Take care everyone in the cold. x

I hope you're very happy in your new house, Chardonnay, and thank you!

Aneres, what last night showed me was that I don't think about alcohol as much as I'd assumed I did. The adverts don't bother me because I don't watch a lot of TV, and I'd screen out ads for cider, beer, whisky, Baileys or whatever in the same way that I'd screen out holidays to sandy beach destinations and brand new cars. None of it interests me and never has.

I'd really enjoy being able to have some red wine with pizza and pasta, but the rest of the time, I don't allow it to be an issue. To be honest, if I'd known how straightforward this was going to be once I got past about Day 60 (and that did require a lot of work), I'd have done it years ago, but I now realise I was never addicted to alcohol. It was just a self-destructive very bad habit that was totally out of control.

To be blunt, what I'm doing is a lot easier than trying to moderate or control my drinking - and failing. I'd been doing that for three years, waking up nearly every day thinking, 'Oh God, why did I ....' Genuinely, pretty much every day. And the seven or so years of hard drinking before that weren't brilliant. The problem was always there, and I knew it, and I know it.

So, on reflection, this is easier. And it always helps when someone points out errors in our thinking  - so thanks for that.
    Better is good enough.

4/20 AFDs today, and the bliss of several hours of time on my own has helped me feel calmer. I'm currently enjoying the film Serendipity on Netflix (using DH's subscription on the huge TV he bought for the bedroom).

    Happy new home Chardonnay
Great insight into bad habits rather than addiction Honey Bear

    3 AFD's please Shaggy

This is the longest I haven't had a drink probably this year, it was hard tonight but I was keen to ride it out and gave myself 'permission' that if I did want a glass of wine then I could. This style of thinking seems to work for me also in relation to losing weight, tell me I can't have chocolate and I crave it even more, even dream bout it:rotfl:
