HB, I don't think it's the Irish coffee that's the issue but more whether you want to try testing yourself with alcohol. If you're absolutely determined to give up then I wouldn't set yourself up like that. Why not just have a floater coffee with the cream on top and tell yourself that it tastes just as good without the whiskey? It might stop the hankering.

Totally agree satchmo about setting a target, any target. I think my habitual 10 is so firmly set in my head now that I'd have to work to it even without the thread. Don't beat yourself up about not reaching yours this month, you've had some hard times. Just do your best.:A

Monday is the easiest night of the week here as I go to a dance class and driving.

Thanks for the Irish Coffee feedback - it's been incredibly helpful in getting me to rethink what's going on in my head.

While I was aiming for 100 Days alcohol free as part of an identifable, discrete goal, the issue of actually going tee-total afterwards could be deferred. That's no longer possible. A little personal Tough Love is going to have to occur, I think, to reset my mindset.

Thank you so much, everyone who helped me realise that. I like the fact that I'm actually feeling physically very different indeed, getting stuff done.

Chardonnay - Good idea about keeping the diary - I didn't but I had definate thoughts about how I felt before October, what I wanted to achieve by doing Sober October and how I feel now. I think I'll wait until the end of the week and try and make sense of all that.

I know this won't help but on the alcohol/ Irish coffee front - has anyone tried the Beanies flavoured coffees, theres all sorts, chocolate orange coffee, toffee coffee etc etc and of course an Irish Coffee flavoured coffee. I was only looking at it yesterday as they were in the Slimming world mag, they are only 20 calories per cup but may fulfil a chocolate craving or an irish coffee craving - just a thought.

I feel a bit of a cheat really! Some of you will know I was diagnosed with Cancer the week before Christmas last year. I had major surgery and was in remission. A couple of weeks ago I had a check up and needed further surgery. It was scheduled for this morning. I said to my Macmillan nurse 'That's my 5 years sober anniversary' 'Ah you can get off your head on a cocktail opf prescription drugs instead!' The last thing I remember saying before I went under this morning was 'Oh have you given me something nice' ZONK. So I'm sober but still a little off my head ;)

365Days, as a newbie, I'd come across your name when I started reading this thread from the beginning, but you stopped posting quite quickly and I wondered what had happened to you. I'm sorry to hear you needed further surgery, but pleased as punch you're legitimately off your face on your anniversary. Hang on in there and herewith some *healing vibes* with love.

Ah HoneyBear. I don't come on here anymore but every year on my anniversary I pop in and 'celebrate' I have no doubt though that this forum and the amazing people on it helped me sort my drinking out. I was on here for about 2 years (different user name) before I quit for good.

    Good luck to everyone. xxx
