  • Sorry to hear about your cat sukeyboo, it's devastating losing pets, they're such an important part of the family.

Been AWOL for a couple of days as I was working away, very long days. Still managed to rack up another 2 AFDs though so that takes me to 14/20 please. Planned drinking tonight but sensibly, hopefully.
  • Thanks Honeybear and Sukeyboo - I was determined no matter what. one slimline tonic, two Becks blue and a sparkling water and I felt very proud of myself and strong.

I've had another one this evening which I sailed through in comparison.

7/10 for me please Shaggy! and my 7 day pom poms :)

I'm a firm believer that a lot of our drinking is habit. Once we know we can break the habit we're well on the way to being in control. Well done on the second evening - that must have felt fantastic!

We watch a few things on Channel 4 and recently there's been an oft repeated advert for some cruise or other. An astonishing number of the segments feature booze. I'm old enough to remember when fags were advertised on TV and they were all about sophistication and being seen to be cool. Booze is there in advertising but not by brand, just by it's presence. Apparently sophisticated people can't enjoy themselves without alcohol. It really is insidious.

    25/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

    I completely agree.

When I was breaking my habit of drinking on school nights I found it very hard watching TV for that very reason. Tuesday nights when the staff congregated in the bar of Holby City hospital was very difficult.:(
  • 20/22 please

Unexpectedly had 2 with close friend on Friday but it was nice and was able to leave it at just 2.

Big family day tommorow. Trying not to drink but family stress is brewing and It might help with coping.

I never noticed it when I was drinking but after I stopped I suddenly saw how most TV programmes have replaced women putting the kettle on with the same women pouring themselves a glass of wine. I can remember exactly the same type of thing about lighting up a cigarette and apparently all of the day's cares just vanished *!!!!!!*. Same story, different song.

I'm relieved to say I now just find it irritating or sad. Depends on my mood. A bit like putting sweets at the checkout to tempt kids - we all recognise how cynical it is.

    Well done PSL.

The way that booze helps you feel relaxed might feel as though it's helping you cope, but when things are difficult it often complicates them as well.

A long, long time ago in the days when I considered one glass of wine with a meal exotic, in a land far far away, a very wise man once told me that people should only drink when they're happy. I always stuck to that - until the bad time really hit and then, sadly, I didn't. Still, lesson learned.

    26/31 please, Shaggy.

I was wondering when and why it became the norm to offer a glass of wine rather than a cup of tea to visitors. Definitely is the case in most of my social circle. In fact my one friend, who takes me to tea rooms and garden centres, I consider rather quaint and old fashioned.

I think it may be an offshoot of increased foreign travel but unlike, for example the French, we don't stop at a small glass.:(
  • 8/10 for me please Shaggy.
  • 15/20 for last night please. Friday night I had one bottle of beer, started another one and decided I didn't want it so poured it away. This evening I had a glass of red wine with Sunday roast, and I'm now having a gin. I am doing this as a treat to myself as I haven't drank at home much at all recently, and have worked 7 days this week. Will stop after the one gin. :)

I need to stay AF for every night left in March if I want to hit my target now. I'm out for tea tomorrow evening so I'm not sure if I'll manage it but we shall see.
