I'm drinking very little these days coz it disturbs my sleep to much. That was the ultimate factor in cutting it right down to practically nothing.....not money or even the social aspect. Now I enjoy a proper nights sleep0

Hi everyone.
I've been lurking for a while but have decided it's time!
I've always had a Disfunctional Relationship With Alcohol but now I am in my 50's it's taking its toll on my health and Psyche.
My pattern is similar to many here: I have a good job and normal worries but every evening and a weekends I drink wine to excess. I tried switching to Brandy (I know - typical alcoholic 'reasoning'!) and of course that's made it worse.
My OH has a bigger problem (will start on the beer at 9.30am any non-work day) but I have got to stop using that as an excuse for my behaviour.
So put me down for 30 DF days starting today.
I am still getting the hang of posting so not sure if I have done it right'...it is only kindness that makes sense anymore ' Naomi Shihab Nye0 -

Welcome no super woman , I'm new here myself , but like you have a long on and off standing relationship with alcohol!
You are braver than I am , going for a stretch of 31 days from the start! I still enjoy wine at the weekends, although yesterday I totally AF , for me on a Saturday that's extremely rare !
Good luck , keep posting , I find that helps and telling everyone here a bit more about myself, my mental state and association with booze helps a lot more !!!:money: I will never be rich but I'm happy :rotfl:0 -
Calling early again, but 22/25 AFDs for me today0

I'm calling early for this evening for 29/31 please. I'm in for the night now with no booze around. Have been out for sunday lunch this afternoon and once again didn't drink with my food, go me0

Welcome Se Ren! The sleep thing comes as a revelation to most people, who genuinely seem to think the reason they don't sleep well has nothing to do with booze!
Hi No Superwoman! I'm glad you've lurked; it means you know roughly what you're joining in with. Good luck with it, and keep posting. I tried changing to beer years before I finally stopped drinking, not knowing at the time that changing drinks to see if that helped was/is a danger signal. I think that anyone who might have a problem with alcohol tries quite a few approaches before biting the bullet, so you're not alone.
As to your OH's drinking, you're right, what he does is up to him but if you want to take a step back, you can. My OH cut his drinking to about a third very gradually after I stopped completely and fortunately for me, never ever put any pressure on me to join him. It's possible your OH might feel a bit differently, but that doesn't mean you have to keep him company.
Good luck with it - we're all rooting for you.
29/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0
