7 nights alcohol free. It was my dd 16th birthday today and we all went to my local pub for Sunday lunch. I drank water and enjoyed a lovely day. Sunday is traditionally a big drinking day for me so I am looking forward to a hangover free start to the week for the first time in a long time!! I hope everyone is having a relaxing sunday0

I was driving last night but managed to talk myself out of having a nightcap when I got home. The lure of chalking up an extra AF day on here helped enormously:A.

Thanks Honey Bear. I promise I am not making excuses but it makes it harder when friends take it personally if you don't have a drink with them. They actually get emotionally upset. They will have to learn to cope tho.
I'm so much happier with myself cutting down the drinking and to be truthful I don't feel like I am missing out although this could be due in part to my antisocial/shy side being truly content.
Thanks to everyone for contributing. it is so helpful to read and helps keep myself in check when the pressure from the world is immense.
I know people can get upset because it's happened to me too. The most surprising person was a man in his 80s who does dry January every year, never drinks when he's working on a film, and everyone, absolutely everyone considers a perfect gentleman. I found him very rude about my personal choice not to drink, which is distinctly ungentlemanly behaviour. I was giving up completely, and let's be brutally honest here no one, but no one, does that by choice. It's a case of having to, so why anyone would challenge it is completely beyond me.
Quite a few people have posted about how personally some friends, aquaintances and relatives have taken it when someone decides to cut down. I just don't understand the behaviour, I really don't.
I feel pretty comfortable just considering them very, very rude. They've got no business commenting on my life choices, particularly as it doesn't actually affect them in any way. I wouldn't bother to argue the toss because it only happens once people start drinking and there's no point in arguing with anyone when they're drunk, or someone who's kind of planning on having a few, ie in the business of getting drunk.7 nights alcohol free. The longer you stay off it, the more you'll find yourself looking forward to living without hangovers. I had absolutely no idea how much alcohol had taken over my life until I stopped drinking and now I just feel relieved I don't do it any more. Treat yourself kindly DProvan, and enjoy the soberside for a bit.
Ah Pricey, isn't it easy to do? My OH used to stop sometimes while I carried on. He still enjoys have a few occasionally and getting very, very happy, but most of the time he stops after one. I could never do that.

I. Love. Amaretto...
I have been very good though and just had a glass on each occasion (and no, not the same glass refilled!) I need to work out how many AFDs I've had since I last posted. It is some, promise!
Back later x0
