Could it be Seasonal Affective Disorder, known as SAD, that's getting you down, New Me? A lot of people feel grim in September. It's said to be to do with light levels and if you're affected you'd need to get as much daylight as possible. Walks, basically although a Daylight bulb in a desklamp would probably help. Craft shops and sewing shops sell them.

That's an interesting idea, I actually have a SAD lamp but I'd forgotten about it! I got one at the start of the year, but stopped using it after a holiday in May and of course more daylight/walks as we moved into Spring. I'm in Scotland and the weather is currently lashing rain lol. I'll dig it out. Thanks Honey Bear:T

  • Have you tried the Sainsburys sparkling AF wine Sandypan? It looks like Prosecco, smells like wine and doesn't taste too bad at all.

Did try one of the Sainsbury's AF wines last year but not sure about the sparkling one, will definitely give it a go thanks for the heads up ElusiveLucy.

A group of friends meet up at my house once a week and when it is some bodies birthday they bring drinks round including AF mainly for people who are driving. This week i was offered a glass of cava and my automatic response was yes please even though there was AF wine there. I kept looking at the glass of bubbles and thought about my pledge to be AF, it was a torment but I resisted and made myself a cup of tea and passed the cava on to somebody else. Going to a 60th birthday tonight and have offered to drive so won't be tempted again so very early declaration of

  • Went out last night for a meal and was presented with dilemma of do I or don't I drink? When I weighed it up, I didn't actually mind one way or another, so ordered an alcohol free rose wine which wasn't bad.
Came home and found that instead of slobbing on the couch, I was clear minded enough to go and do some tasks on laptop.

In all honesty, one of the main reasons I want to cut down is because I need the extra time in my life to be productive, as I am coming into a really busy time in my life out of work (in a really good way) and need all the hours I can get. Also work is mad, will be away from home for 19 nights in the next 4 working weeks. This will make cutting down very difficult as the working days while I am away involve long working hours, then entertaining all night.
My work/life balance is going to present massive challenges to me in the next 12 months, so I don't need the hindrance of a numbing chemical.

2/7 AF days Shaggy, thanks. By the way thanks for still being here when I have come back, great to see you around keeping things going.
  • First chance I've had to talk through the issue of not drinking with someone who's given up and ... it was a non-issue. Interesting how both of us have gone from knowing we were drinking more than we should to having to deal with not drinking and then just prefering life without booze. It's just simpler, that's all and in real life there are more interesting conversations with people you haven't seen for a while, apparently! Don't know what I'd do without this thread, though.

    10/30 please, Shaggy.

    Hello Everyone,

Cuppa, I thought MPwas planning a holiday, maybe this is the reason he isn't about? Let's hope all is well. I've had a funny feeling that something isn't quite right, nothing I can put my finger on. I hope it goes away, as I can be a bit of a worrier.

    1 more AFD please Shaggy.
    Raining a lot here today.

    Arkers x

  • Hello. I'm in for no mid week/at home drinking, which is my 'problem area'.
    1. It's expensive & I can't afford it (I've just done the BudgetBrain and things are tight, but doable)
    2. I don't have a stop button. I either need someone else there or limit how much is in the house
    3. If I have one (ha!) drink, nothing else gets done that evening (I'm a working single parent: I NEED to get stuff done)
    4. I'm mid menopause and alcohol does not help body temperature/sleep regulation
    5. I've got a fabulous new job and I'd like to not !!!! it up by pitching up feeling crap.

I didn't drink yesterday, so I'll start with one day ticked off already. AF1 for me :)

I've no more to add to my total as have been away since Thursday for our anniversary. I totally forgot about this when setting my target too :o. Hopefully, I'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the month though
