Hello all not sure if anyone remembers me. have been on this forum for years and was Noynoy before. I remember shaggy and pricey at least. I have been struggling with drink for the past 16 years and drinkng every day expect when pregnant. Way over what is recommended. Hiding my drinking. Hungover most days , vomiting etc, not a pretty sight. There was me wondering why I was depressed. Well drinking doesn't solve your problems, it just hides them for a while. So anyway you drink and drink then wake up hungover feeling rough and more miserable. Loathing, regrets, what if's what did I do? I'm sure most of you know and can understand me xx
Today I celebrate 4 months sober. Thats the longest I have ever been , all my adult life since I was 18..20 years ago. The first month was very very hard. I still eat too much sugar, but thats going away slowly. My bank balance is much better , and I have pulled my finger out re debts. Even my hubby has got on board and the Kitchen extension thats been on going for 15 years will be going ahead next year. It really feels like life is fantastic and something has finally clicked.
I wish you all so much love and luck, You can do it, you just need to forgive yourself for your mistakes , learn by them. You have the strength to do this, you can do this. Keep safe , keep well. Blessings for a great week xx:A

Lovely to hear from you M23B!

Sounds like something is working for you and it is paying dividends already.
Can I ask what finally 'clicked' and what do you do to stay sober? Or is it just willpower alone and the 'enough is enough' feeling that some of us have?

    Good morning everyone,

1 AFD for me last night please Shaggy.
Did anyone watch that couples weight loss programme on BBC last night? The couple drank 25 bottles of wine per week between them. I wondered how on earth that someone who drank this much could have no symptoms whatsoever when the went cold turkey, is this a possibility? It transpired that the daughter had left to go and live with her dad, due to her mothers dependency to alcohol. Whereas the mother had thought it was due to her relationship with the new partner. It appeared to have had a good ending, but I did wonder after this exposure on TV do the participants receive all the extra help they might need?

Hello MT3B, excellent news on 4 months AF, may I ask what the light bulb moment was?....Or you can tell me to mind my own business. I bet you feel so much better physically and mentally?

    Have a good day everyone.

Welcome back Mummy2threeboys. Yes! I really do remember you from before. Like you I've been around for years and had a name change too.

Very well done on your 4 months. No mean feat.

And now you've come back......do stay for a while :)

1/28 AF to report. Actually my 14th consecutive day as well. Last night Other Half had an alcohol free night too without me going on.

Thanks. My lightbulb moment...and there have been quite a few false starts over the years. Was very simple, after yet again not remebering how I got home from a night out with friends (one who is teetotal) I woke up covered in bruises. Apparently I had fallen out of her car onto the road and her and my hubby who was also drunk put me to bed. I recalled nothing!
I got well and decided I had enough of wasting my life on so called fun nights out and not remembering anything. Hangovers are not fun. I don't need to drink to have a nice time.
I have been suffering from really ill health as well and didn't want drink dependency to be added on top of it or an excuse for it.
What helped me give up is staying close to other drinkers who are trying sobriety , not AA but online. It helped me, for some reasons the scorn of relative strangers worried me more than what my own family and friends though of me, weird hey?
Graemecarter I remember you ! Hope you are doing ok sweets?

Arkers, That is a lot, maybe almost what hubby and i was doing maybe a bottle each a night. :(
It's odd how dependents often don't see they have an issue with it and walk round blinkered to it. Sadly I know I am not alone. Many many of my grown up my age , with children drink just as much as I do, regardless of social standing ( I have a lovely wide mix of friends) . I'm begginng to wonder if this is the norm here, and people just hide how much they drink really well. A botttle of wine or two a night is normal..thats not right is it?

Sorry for spelling issues..need new speccys! Anyway have a wonderful weekend. Be good to yourself x

I didn't watch the programme as I feared after seeing the first one it would be formulaic. I might look it up on iplayer. I'd certainly hope that having a psychologist front the series that the couples will have ongoing support or at least advice.

I'm out for lunch today with some quite abstemious friends so won't be hard to stick to fizzy water. Hopefully the pub will have some decent salads too so that I can be healthy all round.:)

    2 AFDs please Shaggy.

My June is getting off to a late start in that Thursdays would normally be an AFD for me but I am going for drinks this lunchtime with a work colleague. Normal service will resume tomorrow. :)

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
