Dizzy well done for staying strong. Great achievement.

Why was your day so bad?

    HoneyBear & Maman........it was a joke i promise!

I hope Shaggy takes it that way. I'd dust off my kneepads if I were you, just in case!

I have already identified 2 potential occasions in June where the temptation to drink will be heightened due to the social groups PLUS another wedding in July.
    ...
I guess cross bridges when the time comes.

There is no doubt that working out ahead of potentially 'dangerous' events reduces their risk, so well done for identifying the likely problematic ones that are up and coming. Good luck with navigating your way through them. Once you've racked up a few times that would, in the past, have guaranteed sloshing it back with abandon you'll be able to see your way through much more clearly. It's gaining sober momentum that in the early days that's tricky. You're doing well, even if I do give you a bit of a hard time - largely because I don't want to go back to 30 hour hangovers, either.
I find that when I'm drinking I have this false energy that keeps me happy and out whereas when I don't drink my tiredness really comes through. I guess this idea of drink masking things is true even for that. It's odd how it cam seem both stimulating in the sense of keeping you happy and out at the pub and a depressant at the same time.

The secret to alcohol's success is how 'great' it makes us feel - very temporarily. I'm still surprised how tired I can be at then end of the day now which very rarely happened when I drank because if I felt tired I'd just neck a couple of glasses of wine and way-hay! How I carried on, and where I got the energy to achieve anything at all in those days, are a complete mystery to me. The depressant effect of alcohol is an after-effect, unless, of course, our 'boring' behaviour includes bursting into tear and indulgent self-pitying wittering. In other words, it goes with the hangover.

I will not drink. Instead I have eaten chocolate.

20/28 for me please Shaggy x

I hope the fact that you could come and here and just say that helped a bit. (((Hugs))) and I hope bulk chocolate hit the spot. There are times in life when we need to give ourselves free rein to indulge hangover-risk-free behaviour; your yesterday sounds like just such a day. More (((hugs))) for a better today.

Yesterday I finished an annual task I have come to loathe. Stern words were had with the person who made it worse, once again. Next year should see an improvement, I hope, or drastic action will be taken. I'm too old to have to work that hard that fast.

The good news is that I also finished siliconing the kitchen sink, something that gave me a huge sense of satisfaction. I'm hearting my recently acquired DIY skills and frustrated that some of the courses I signed up to with my Ex-Boozer Money have been cancelled because of low numbers. This summer I will be book the evening classes I want to do the minute the brochure comes out because the autumn term courses are always over-subscribed, and the ones later in the academic year are under-subscribed.

    28/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Bless you Honey Bear. I do not see that you give me a hard time at all, in fact you are consistently a voice of clarity & honesty throughout - not just for me but to others here too I suspect. In fact, it is largely this forum that is keeping me sober.
One of the things I could not abide about AA meetings was that it was so time consuming in my day. With this forum it is easy to jump in & out and reading everyones stories is inspiring whereas I found AA utterly depressing. For some, this forum wouldn't work so I guess its a chance to finally use that proverb "horses for courses".

19/31 AF achieved. Although I do a lot of sport, since I "quit" drinking with gusto this month, I've already dropped 2 kg. I guess all that running/lifting only ever stopped the damage from happening rather than improving upon what was there already.

Have a great Saturday. We are off to a garden party. I am Designated Driver - to get over that hurdle - as its an hour away.

Glad to hear things are on the up, Dizzy. Flylady Valli reckons that having a P!mms means that she's defo having at least two of her 5-a-day fruit and veg, so technically it's very healthy!

Have a fab bank holiday everyone.

    30/31 please, Shaggy.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
