Feeling really irresponsible

I had taken the remains of a roast pork joint out of the fridge to make a sandwich. Made the sandwich, eaten it and went to put the rest of the pork back in the fridge. Opened the fridge door and the cat jumped out.
She had snook in when I had taken the meat out and I had not noticed:o.0 -
Don't worry, you have a cat, not a gremlin.0

Mutt had a permanent kink in her tail from when she wagged at me just as I was slamming the car door shut.
Shouting at them each time I fell over them for being PITA Klingons attached to my leg, then realising they're trying to tell me I've forgotten to feed them. Again.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I realise I really shouldn't be left in charge of a dog........All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
We had one of those days over Christmas where we had been really busy, lots of visitors coming and going etc. About 8pm I realised the poor dog hadnt had his tea!! No wonder he was scrounging when DS1 was in the biscuit tin. Felt really really bad - but he is looking a bit podgy at the moment so I dont think it did him any harm.0

I have to confess this - been weighing on mind since this thread started and I kept mum about it at the time. my second cat Timmy wasn't allowed in the bedrooms and I walked into sons bedroom just as Tim was taking a leap onto the windowsill - I yelled 'Timothy'! and distracted him, he fell backward hitting the middle of his back on the footboard of the bed (solid pine). he screamed in pain and collapsed on floor, I ran downstairs and phoned OH to come home from work to take him to vets - but I never did own up that I caused Timmy to fall and hurt himself. The vet thought initially his back was broken and he had to stay there for a week - but, he did make a good recovery. I still feel awful about it.0

^^oh my God!!
This thread is horrible, I'm cringing reading half of it...and giggling at the other half, thanks to rising from the ashes and Tygermoth!
Which reminds me of my own story:
Everyone apart from myself and my brother had gone on holiday, and after feeding the cats in the morning and getting ready for the day, we were both out the door. I came back around 4 or so, fed the cats that were lingering around the kitchen and went to watch some tv and do some work. When I went to go to bed....I discovered that one of the cats had been shut in the bedroom all day, and I had been sitting downstairs for hours without realising it! Makes my heart ache just thinking about it even now

Just today I decided to bath my pooch as he stunk something rotten from swimming in a pond. Usually it's a two person job because of his size and escape attempts, but OH was at work and I wanted cuddles from a non-stinker so I thought I'd have a go myself.
It all started out well and we got to the point of a full-body lather before the crying started, and boy did he go for it. I was worried the neighbours would think I was skinning him or something. He was too soapy to let him get out but every time I went near him with the water he was screeching and writhing, until I ended up with one foot in the bath and the other soaking up the puddle on the floor before it ran under the door and into the hall carpet. The poor dog was beside himself and I ended up rinsing his head with water from the basin tap cupped in my hands and carried over to the bath because he wouldn't let me anywhere near the bath taps.
His poor little crying face looking up at me with his 'I thought I could trust you' eyes, all the while sliding around the bathtub in a writhing fit of anguish was just too much to bear.
So I let him dry off under the dining table and he had fresh chicken for tea. I think we're friends again now.0 -
I punched CD in the face once (by accident of course). I was playing with him and shadow boxing but he jumped up just as I punched the air and I caught him on the nose. Poor thing flinched everytime I went to pet him for the rest of the day despite me instantly bursting into tears, hugging him and giving him lots of treats to say sorry.
I've also managed to get him with the door a few times, not realising he was behind me as I close the door behind me, or behind the door when I'm opening it.
It's amazing he still loves me really.
Oh, and when I still lived at home, I did something that meant I nearly killed my 2 labs. I think my parents were on holiday or something and I went to work in the morning. When I got home, I could smell gas as soon as I got to the front door. I thought there must be a gas leak or something so went in to get the dogs out and to get the phone and the number for the gas leak dudes (this was before everyone had mobiles), and found that I'd left something edible on the cooker - just out of the dogs reach. Being greedy labs they tried to get it, and one of their attempts had resulted in them turning on one of the gas knobs - as they hadn't hit the button to light it, it just had pumped gas into the house. I was just lucky that I got home when I did, that they hadn't hit the ignition button on a later attempt and that nobody had passed by smoking. Still feel so bad about that.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. I was unpacking my overnight bag and threw a perfume bottle onto the bed having forgotten one of my cats was curled up sleeping. I heard a 'clonk' and looked round to see one very bemused and annoyed cat who staggered off the bed and rather dizzily wandered on to the landing having been hit on the head by the bottle. She ignored me for two days before eventually forgiving me (she holds a grudge). I felt so awful.0

When my cat was a kitten I shut her PAW in the back door as I didn't see her following me in, she yowled and ran limping away but I caught her up brought her inside and made sure she was ok (in tears cos I felt so bad)
A memorable moment with my dog (that didn't actually hurt him but did make me feel proud of him) I was running late to collect the kids and ran out of the front door grabbing my keys as I went. 25 minutes later we were back to see him sitting 'on guard' on the door step, front door open. I could only assume in my haste I hadn't shut the door properly so he came and sat on the step to make sure no one tried to come in!0
