Feeling really irresponsible

We have 2 cats/kittens, with the youngest just 8 months old. They are both indoor cats as I don't want to let them out due to busy road, however, the youngest Sam, likes to try and follow me out the door in the mornings and he is so quick he sometimes manages it.

This morning I got a message from my OH saying he found Sam in the garden wet and shivering. I was very upset and close to tears as when I left for work the weather was atrocious with heavy rain and wind and the thought of my little cat out in that upset me. I can't believe I didn't see him and he was outside for over an hour :(

He's absolutely fine after a dry and cuddles with OH, but it made me think what things other people had done to their pets that left them feeling as bad as I did?

Btw, I've learnt my lesson to be more careful when leaving the house :)

  • He'll be right as rain ;) (and will no doubt revel in the chance for extra cuddles!)

Hopefully this will make you feel better

:o Archie likes to sleep on my pillow - I'm a terrible sleeper and toss/turn a lot but he's grown up with it and hardly ever moves

Sometimes I come too and he's sitting with his face just off mine (I'm sure willing me to wake up!)

Anyway, one night something was really irritating my face .... it must've penetrated deep sleep as I was semi-conscious that there was a tickle but not awake IYKWIM

I must've brushed my hand or something up a couple of times but it didn't go away .... next minute the tickle was back and this time I must've had a really good whack at whatever it was ...... and then came fully awake when Archie landed against the wall with a big yeowl! :(

Needless to say, it was a while before he slept on my pillow again - and he does now wait until he's sure I'm actually awake now before sticking his face in mine!:o

my cats have been out in the rain and i think they mostly find somewhere to hide up. Though my current cat Giz doesn't seem to mind getting wet and will come in drenched - especially during the night - and walk on me!!
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p

I slammed the backdoor on one of our moggie's tails over the summer, and bawled my eyes out as he fled up the garden. He'd forgotten it an hour later and came back for cuddles. It's made me very cautious around doors now.

Thanks for sharing, but I couldn't help but chuckle. Definately made me feel better, and yet worse for laughing at the same time :D

Lol - I'm just wondering if that's why I nearly always have his bottom on my forehead when I wake up now!

I have punted a cat off the bed. Sudden leg cramp and i reacted by a sharp fast leg extension. Not realising the poor puss was curled up at the bottom of the bed.

I actually launched him. he got full on air time.

One day I couldn't find our old dogs harness it was raining windy and very cold but she had refused to go out for a few days because of the weather. I decided enough was enough and she needed to get some exercise. So before i changed my mind grabbed her collar and took the very reluctant madam out.

Got to the top field, she turned, looked me straight in my eye.... then promptly shucked her collar (that's why she should have been on a harness) and legged it.

I found her smugly sitting warm and dry by the radiator on the front porch.

Three main roads... Three hugely busy main roads between the field and my house. It still gives me the horrors just thinking about it.

Current puppy - while moving from the hall to the kitchen stumbled on the puppy as he ran between my feet. Managed to stagger kicking him causing him to barrel forward. My falling momentum cased me to fly face forward doing that strange running falling thing.. so while doing that my flailing arm smacked him again just before i face planted in the middle of the kitchen.

The smack barrelled him forward again so he thumped solidly into the side of the puppy pen.

Have you ever had you heart totally broken by a puppy that's ears are down, tail is down looking at you with its big sad liquid eyes because you just hurt it. Oh my gosh i was inconsolable. esp as he avoided me for the rest of the day looking at me with the face that said 'you beat little puppies' or 'i am calling the RSPCA'

I felt so guilty at the vets feeling like they were looking at me as a nasty person who cruelly assaulted small defenceless animals., but i hope my huge bruise around my forehead and eye convinced them that i was not actually nasty to the poor mite and it was a genuine accident.
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

Our cat likes to follow me into the utility room then hide behind the door - he's got himself shut in there a couple of times doing that. Usually I check for him and the longest he's been there is 10 mins or so. On saturday I put some washing on then came back in the house, thinking he was asleep upstairs the whole time. Two hours later I heard banging and went into the kitchen to discover he was shut in the utility room and was banging on the door to try and get back in. He'd scratched at the carpet and pulled it up so then I couldn't open the door, had to climb through the garden (in pouring rain) and wrench the back door (that we never use) open to get to him.

I've also trodden on him before now... he sneaks up behind me when I'm washing up and stands right behind me. I stepped back onto him.

Reading this back I think I need to get him a bell... for his own good :)

My idiot ex husband did the same to my boys tail, much worse though as he needed half of it amputated! Makes me so angry:mad: I know it was an accident but he was never careful around anything least of all the cat.

Our old cat we accidently shut in a bedroom when we went away for the night. Had left loads of food and water out in the kitchen for him, we thought he was out when we left, it turned out he was upstairs. Two days and not so much as a pee or a poo left anywhere in revenge.

Another time, not caused by us deliberately but I feel guilty for having the radiators, he slipped as he climbed on or off the windowsill, I heard him screaming and found him hanging by his toe from one of those horrid stupidly designed slots in the top. Grabbed a throw off a chair and went to grab him, fortunately he dug his claws into the throw and I was able to lift him clear without getting scratched to bits. Poor thing, he sat swallowing for ages, but the following day was fine.
