Points taken ...... a very expensive mistake , but please note T-Mobile do not CAP anything .

These tariffs we're excluded some time ago it seems , and has compounded the situation / error .

Can I ask , despite all the above , do you not think that these large corporate entities offer "safeguards" to help their customers ??

Or is that being arrogant as well ??

If they cut the service off after x minutes, then they would be deluged with complaints from people who legitimately wanted that high usage. They would also be sued by everyone who needed the phone in an emergency and found that they'd exceeded their limit.
Isn't the conversation you should really be having with your daughter, not the provider?
Capped tariffs are offered (Tesco do them, among others, link below), but you failed to check. Failing that, what's wrong with PAYG?

T Mobile offer a maximum of 2,000 minutes on consumer contracts-the only contracts with unlimited minutes are business ones. That took 2 minutes to check. And do you really want your daughter on the phone for upwards of 33 hours a month anyway?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Any suggestions for a decent PAYG deal ??

That would depend entirely on her required usage: minutes/texts/data. Or on what monthly spend you are going to set.

For a child (and many adults), you should have got Giffgaff or Three PAYG. Others will suggest Ovivo which is free and funded by advertising of some sort.

A big problem at the moment is some kids have ipads and running up huge bills in their parents names playing the various games.

Why are there so many threads like this lately? Phone contracts should require an intelligence test perhaps.

Methinks they should put a sign on the main page saying "don't bother complaining if you use more than you agreed to and the network actually has the absolute nerve to expect you to pay for it" alongside another "if you give your children a blank chequebook there's only one person to complain to when they use it - and it's not the bank".

Would save the endless new threads all trying to shift the blame to the people who are providing the service. They may be abysmal in many ways, but they ARE there to provide a service and there is a lot of choice and information for the customer should they choose to refer to it.

Giff Gaff and Three offer the best PAYG tariffs IMO...you even get a data allowance as part of it, so your kid can still use twitter and FB when out and about

Its not pay as you go (nor maybe the cheapest) but Tesco Mobile DO CAP the sim only plans, you can choose what amount to cap it at eg £2.50. Cheapest contract is £7.50 and you get 250Mins plus 5000 texts but no data or for an extra £2.50 you get double mins and 1GB of data.

we thought my daughter had unlimited minutes on her account , it turns out she didn't ! As a consequence she somehow managed to very rapidly incur a phone bill of over £400 in just 3 days during the Xmas period .

Who on earth had your daughter been ringing to rack up 400 quid in 3 days? Have you found out how many minutes were actually included in the contract?

I mean, say for instance, if she'd only had 250 mins, which is just over 4 hours, (rather than the unlimited you thought she had) & had used the allowance, then carried on going over at say 35p per minute for each extra minute used, she must've had been chatting for a heck of a long time over the said 3 days.

    For example: 0.35p x 1100 minutes (18 & a half hours) would bring the total to £385.

Even if it was 0.50p per minute, using 800 mins (13 & a half hours) would bring it to £400.

    Even a £1 a minute would still be nearly 7 hours worth of calling time. (£1 x 400 mins = £400)

Plus whatever allowance was included in the contract, how can anyone talk that much in 3 days?????

I have 600 minutes (10 hours) a month & even I never use it all.

If my estimated calculations are wrong, then someone plz correct me!
