I've just been thinking about this actually. As one of you said, I think I've got nothing to wear because I've got so much in my wardrobe, and most of it I don't wear. I don't feel like I have my own sense of style, so maybe I should give this personal shopping thing a go.No more goo hoarding!

The major reason I didn't get a lot of wear out of some clothes was that the colour didn't quite work. Since I had my colours done many years ago (for free, the trainer demonstrated on me)
it has saved me loads of moneyand most pieces work together.
The main advantage was realising which colours 'drained' me - e.g. the ones I used to buy when I was well tanned, but most of the year just looked wrong somehow.
My basics soldier on until they need replacing, bit like Minerva's.0 -
I have come to accept that there are certain fashions that suit me and so I now no longer dramatically change my look, instead I tweak it. Mainly through colour and materials.
Every 6 months I head to the beauty counter to get my foundation checked and to make sure I am using the right makeup finish for my age and skin type and once a year I get my skin care regime checked.
My hair I get cut to chin/shoulder length and then I leave it to grow out before getting it cut shorter again and I vary the shade that it is although not dramatically.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Just popping back to give a little update. Have found this interesting reading, so thank you for your replies.
I asked my boyfriend and best friend to comment on what I wear (and after much assurances I wouldn't get upset!) I have had some useful feedback. Interestingly they line up with some of the comments / suggestions made.
1. I wear a lot of clothes that look the same / very similar.
It seems I do have a palette of colours I rely on (complete fluke) and they agree they suit me. But you can't tell my three teal dresses apart for example, so money not well spent there.
2. I wear clothes that age me.
Mostly this is aimed at my work wardrobe, but boyf would like it if I dressed a little more 'fun' sometimes. I'm 30, I need to find a role model or two and look to them for style tips. Thanks to wannabeslimfor this idea.
3. I can be a bit of a 'plain jane'.
I felt a bit too 'done'/'trying to hard' a few years back and stopped bothering with accessories. Seems I've gone too far and no longer bother with any details at all. I'm shy and a little overweight - guess I am 'hiding' a little. Perhaps also explains why I bought nearly the same dress three times and didn't notice till it wass pointed out!
4. I've not changed my hair style since I was 11!!!
Fair point. Have security blanket long layered hair. Need to think on this point. Rummer is onto something here.
5. I wear my make up the same way all the time, day and night.
I have plenty of make-up (I'm sure you're not suprised!) but use none of it. Have found a safe 'look' and do that one all the time. Time to experiment and find a few other ways to wear my face :rotfl:
Big sort through is done. Now it's finessing and using what I have to better advantage. I spent years overspending to amass this collection of clothes etc... so I hope to be able to find a way to use most of it. The rest is ebay bound, the money made is to be used to make clever purchases in line with the above.
Seriously considering a personal shopper for spring / summer. A fresh perspective is exactly what I need.
For everyone else pondering about this kind of thing, hope some of that gives ideas.Debt free (finally) and saving a deposit for my first home.0 -

Good luckPlease think very carefully before having your long hair cut, Bobs etc can be very aging when you hit 30, imo they are a school run type of hair cut and a touch frumpy unless they are cut in an edgy way which requires upkeep, you can always put long hair up or tie it back

Thanks wannabeslim, I will. I'll start trying to wear my hair differently sometimes and see how I feel. Guess I've just become increadibly lazy with it (though at the same time I cherish it).Debt free (finally) and saving a deposit for my first home.0
