How often do you update your look?

A year ago I did a wardrobe purge for the first time in years as I was constantly wearing jeans, shirts and boots (or sandals in the summer).
This was triggered by being called 'Sir' twice in a month. I realised that a dress wasn't such a bad idea!
I highly recommend a sort-out. But you have to be ruthless.
For example, if you have 6 black cardigans, get rid of the 3 that you least like.
Take notice of what people who look well turned-out and are a similar shape to you wear so you can use them for ideas.
Be brave and try not to be self-conscious - unless you are naked or dressed like vampire or something, people really won't notice that bright dress or shortish skirt!
I believe that if you have nothing to wear it is often because your wardrobe is too full, not full enough.0 -
i remain quite conscious towards my appearance whenever i have y move out whether for my job or for other purposes so naturally i pay a proper attention on all the fitting i own for my outings .. and yes i love mixing things up !.0

Never throw away a black cardigan (unless its really nasty!) They are your friends, and so easy to accessorise. Same with plain t-shirts.0 -

Sometimes though if a wardrobe is stuffed to the seams and you can't even remember what you own you do need to purge.0 -
Do people really have so many clothes they can organise them by season? I have 5 pairs of black pants, 2 pairs of jeans, and about a dozen tops that can all be mixed and matched for work or play. Then another few play only tops, 2 dresses, and 3 workout outfits.
I also only have 8 pairs of shoes, including sports trainers.
And I'm never stuck for something to wear.
Maybe I'm odd.

I have so much more than that - I really am one of those people who can never find anything to wear because their wardrobe is so full. In a couple of weeks I'm going to clear out my wardrobe of clothes (and shoes) that I remember I've not worn for a while. Anything that I'm not sure of, I'm going to put a peg or something else identifiable on. If I wear it, I'll take the peg off. At the end of the year, any pegged clothes are going to the recycling bin.0 -
I don't really. I think I've now settled on a 'look' and I'm sticking with it. I have noticed that my style's evolved over the years but now it seems to have settled into something resembling a fixed style that I like. Now I only tend to get rid of stuff if it's falling apart and can't be fixed, and when I shop I tend to buy things that fit with what I like to wear even if they're not necessarily on trend.
I do however have a box under my bed where all my obviously 'summer' clothes like shorts, vest tops etc live, and then towards the end of the spring I'll move those into my wardrobe and the obvious 'winter' things go into the box - although it's still to hand in case there's a sudden heatwave or cold snap!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
It amazing when you actually clear out some items... The ones you haven't worn usually don't fit or you don't quite feel comfortable in therefore you are never going to wear them.
Either sell on ebay/Car boot sale etc- give away- charity shop or last gasp recycling bin.
At least then you know where your gaps are, if you haven't worn it in a while the likely hood unless it's posh frock etc your not going too.0 -

I always find it useful to actually look at what I am clearing out when I do this. I realised it was always the cheap stuff and often the unplanned sale purchases. It made me realise how shopping in the sales (without a list) or going into places like Primark are a false economy for me. On the other hand the items that made me wince at the cash desk when I bought them have been worn over and over again.0 -
I agree and have been trying to make more conscious choices. When I shop cheaper now it's usually when I'm making a lean to what's 'in ' fashion. I might a tee shirt/ top in a certain colour etc and that part is disposable ... But trousers etc I buy more expensive quality. As your right you usually wear this far far more.0
