How often do you update your look?

Morning all,

I'm in the middle of a massive wardrobe re-organsiation, and it occurs to me that I pretty much wear the same stuff all the time. But I have a mass of clothes and options.

I wondered how many of you make a conscious effort to update your look regularly?

    Hi Elmer,

Not sad at all, it's just easier I suppose! Glad it's not just me. I've made a start sorting it all out if you're looking for an idea.

I have started with dresses, as that's what I wear most. I split that into work, casual, going out and special occasion. Then I hope to split each pile further into seasons. Do the same for all clothes - tops, trousers etc....

Then I'll put the Spring, Summer, Autumn ones away out of reach and then just have immediate access to the Winter ones. Should reduce the amount of clothes by a great many! Especially going out and special occasion (of which I have next to nothing!).

Then at the start of each season I will lay them all out and try to come up with outfits from what's available. Should encourage me to make better use of my accessories too. I have a little money available for the odd primark item if I need something to give flexibility.

    Sound workable?

I wear what suits me, so my look pretty much stays the same, although I do try and be trend conscious when I can.

I also focus my wardrobe on autumn/spring wear as the periods of really cold and really hot weather are fairly short, if you think about it. I wear layers, which can be added/taken off as needed.

When I can afford it! :rotfl:
    Music is the answer...
  • I'm trying to do so just now... Clearing out what is worn out and done. Then I have bought some black white & grey vests and t- shirts from Primark. Long sleeved, 3/4 sleeved and short sleeved.. Then I can use them with some of the clothes I have.i have bought a few items in sale- couple of cardigans and a couple of ballet pumps for summer. I plan to buy some new scarfs and couple of different( hopefully inexpensive) accessories to mix n match a bit to create different 'looks' cheaper...

You should ask this question to people who you think have good dress sense. Not Internet posters.

You have no idea what anyone here looks like so it's not wise to take advice from people who you don't know style sense wise.

It worked in 1992 so why change? If it's fashionable I won't like it anyway :) I can fit all my clothes bar underwear in a single wardrobe anyway.

I think you can have a general conversation such as but some different coloured basic tees to update cheaply or could you add some new fashion accessories to update etc that is different from asking for style advice.. But I do see your point :)

A bit, but not a lot. If I like a current style I might buy a few small accessories or a top or something. I am short with an hourglass figure so not many styles suit me. I look ridiculous in very casual clothes and a lot of the recent fashions would have looked silly on me. So, I basically stick to the same styles, but try and make sure I am not looking stuck in the past.

It's hard to know how to have a classic look and how to avoid looking dated. I know some people who have worn the same styles all their life and look fabulous. And I know other people who look like they are going to a fancy dress party because everything they are wearing puts them in a particular era.
