What happens when they can't get a reference from it? no guarantee or obligation to provide one
What happens when weeks/months (or days) later they are laid off? often through no fault of their's - only public's disgusting attitude bread toward certain businesses? ooohhh I wouldn't possibly work there, how do you think food gets to my table?
What happens when they need to pay for a DBS? just another string of the twisted recruitment process
What happens when they go to a job interview and the employer as much as criticises the candidate for not knowing but also doesn't do their 'homework' as to what the candidate has done in past, instead rather jumps to conclusion = unsuitable position
You go for the job interview, never hear back or told your not good enough but low and behold what vacancy just keeps appearing every couple of weeks?
Wages are good yeah but at someone else's expense!? no I don't mean the customers, but apprentices who may land up in debt later on due to it
You also find yourself with no rights for 2 years but that is ok, add to that the vulnerable people out there who wouldn't know where to go, I'm fortunate I do someone else may not
ps. oh the job you told me to go for in October 2013 as I had nothing to lose after 1st redundancy well has since shut down, remember after my first lay off and the more recent company featured on the news for being so bad, with the inbetween telling me who couldn't do the job... so no good to man nor beast, here is the door or I'll chose your hours for you, isn't that the modern way...
Is there any chance you could start reading your own posts to see if they make sense before you click "submit reply"? This ^^ is another rambling load of nonsense.0 -
I couldn't understand it either.0

Whilst I am sure there are companies that can make a profit from employing people with no wages, quite a few that offer job experience will at best break even when you take into account an interview process and the paperwork the JSA would require, plus any equipment, all of this has to be paid for.
In my line of work, even if an employee was unpaid, it would take 6 weeks until we reached the point where we could use them after training (specialist data entry).
It is not 'cost free' to employ someone, even if they actually take no wages.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -

the same costs as you mention are involved if they were to employ someone, in fact the costs are much more, as they will have the same equipment costs, paper work, they will also have to pay NI and also wages, holiday pay and sick pay, so sorry they are making a big profit from taking on staff and not paying them, to say they are "breaking even" is totally naive.0 -

It is paid for, by taxpayers giving money to companies who offer work experience placements.0 -
I have only started using the bus, going to interviews and the WP and I'm amazed at how many people are not paying, the bus is nearly always full and maybe 4 people have actually paid.
I don't know but I guess the government do not pay full fare to the bus companies for the OAP passes? so it is left for us to make up the difference.
I know once i was on the bus and the driver must have known the person but he said to her 'i can't believe you have got on 2 stops, you know it costs 83p every time you use your card' and I think that is one of the problems.
I read on here somewhere that all the free bus passes are going next year and I don't think it will be a bad thing as if all oaps and other pass holders (even some around my age) just paid a pound per journey it would save hundreds of thousands to the councils, especially on the short journeys and would make people think more before getting on the bus to go around the corner (and I have lost count the amount of times passes are used for 1 to 4 stops that would take less than 10 minutes to walk). Plus it might stop the bus companies putting the prices up as I know I use the bus a lot less now as I don't agree with paying so much for some of the journeys as it is a joke.
Around here before 9.30 to have an all day ticket its 8 quid or a fiver after 9.30 but you can travel miles on it over a few counties but I always say its a tax on working:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

sorry but don't come on too strongly, if it was a lifeline as you say then they would qualify for DLA/PIP.0 -
I phoned the employer and they definitely will not help with fares - the woman sounded annoyed that I asked. So they want someone to work for not a penny for 8 weeks and are not even prepared to help with fares. What a country we live in now.
No kidding they were annoyed. You asked about them doing something for you before they could even consider whether you had something to give them. You went about it totally the wrong way. What you should have done is go to the inteview, sale yourself to all your abilities, go there for a week or two as much as you could afford, make yourself indispensible and then tell them that unfortunately you can't continue because you can't afford it. The chances of them being prepared to help with your travel costs would have multiplied by 100%.
Unfortunately, you seem to be one of those people who unless everything is set to their liking from the start, are not prepared to give anything a try. It was clear from your first OP that you didn't want to do it no matter what.
Oh, well, maybe a good opportunity that has passed you by that someone else will benefit from, but then you will never know...0 -

are you for real? indispensable? it's free labour, if the OP walks out, they ring up for another one.
The OP's chances of getting travel costs go up by 100%? again are you for real, they have said no to travel costs, 100% of 0 is still 0.
Some people just do not get it, when the OP says they do not have the money, they do not mean they can't really afford it, they mean if they pay £20 on travel, they don't eat, it's as simple as that.0
