Also, they need your name to prosecute. After 3 months, data Protection on the TV Tax colelctors database, means they have to address the occupier. they need evidence to gain your name. If you remain silent, they can not get this, hence no prosecution. Most are ignorant of this and pay the fee, without arguement.
Remember, the TV Tax collector needs evidence that a crime is being committed to get a warrant.0 -

This contradicts your first point above. Tell em nothing then they know nothing.0 -
Uh oh, I'm getting the distinct urge to save £12.12 per month.
And I've also got the distinct feeling there's no way of TVL physically knowing whether you are watching live broadcasts other than spying on you.0 -

Cheers Blackbeard.
I do find this subject very interesting. I take a balanced view though.
I do enjoy watching and recording live TV on all the main channels and I also watch iPlayer a lot as well, now my new telly supports this.
I could if pushed (through grinding poverty) give up the live tv and just watch iPlayer catchup service via broadband, so legally I could then cancel the TV tax. But in practice, in reality I'd just be lying and carry on watching live tv in secret with the curtains closed (they're always closed anyway, who am I kidding):D.0 -
Cornucopia wrote: »The YV box is useful in that it functions perfectly well for catch-up only if the aerial connection is not there. Simply de-tune all the Freeview channels, don't subscribe to any premium channels, and the solution works extremely well. Without the EPG, you access catch-up TV through the player apps.
It provides licence free access to iPlayer, 40d, Demand5, ITVPlayer, DaveOD, and Milkshake. You can also watch individual films on the Box office. Sadly, TT have reduced other VOD content, and there is no option to subscribe to what little there is without also subscribing to broadcast channels (which is a bad idea).
Thanks - This is exactly what I was looking for - My aim is to stick within the law and my intention is to only watch catch-up tv - so this method is perfect for ticking both boxes.
Good bye TV licence :-)0
