What were your plans financially when you came home and he became a student? Are family supporting you at the moment? When baby is born there will be things you can claim. When will the course finish? Definitely he should try to get work. Is there anything you can do perhaps some cleaning for friends and family in exchange for their support. Hopefully if you can just manage until he completes his course it will lead to a good job and have been worth the sacrifice.

    Hi OP

Suggest you also post an SOA (Statement of Affairs - what income and expenditure you have) on the Debt Free Wannabe board, as the posters on there are experts at helping deal with debt.

Link to the SOA is here (fill it in and use the 'format for MSE option): http://www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php

Post it on the DFW board here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76

But you need an income, no two ways about that.
Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way!

His course is 5 months long and no he cannot pick full time or part time, that's not how it works where he is studying. He is an engineer already but was unable to find a job so is studying this new course in the hope of working in a new field where there is alot of demand and it will lead to work. I don't appreciate your comments regarding "his priorities", you are so judgemental. My husband is doing this to try and secure a good job for our future. Is that so bad? Maybe he shouldn't have bothered and we both should have just signed up for JSA for months on end? The last time I posted on this forum was 2009 and I remebered it very differently. I think this was a mistake. Thank you to those with advice.

To the rest again thank you, I'm going to go now. I'm feeling so stupid and emotional and crying. Maybe it's the pregancy or more likely I'm just an idiot.

Does he have 5 months in total or 5 months left? It sounds like the course will be worthwhile my husband is an electronics engineer and they often struggle to employ people inside the UK for jobs at his place. I'd recommend he starts getting the ball rolling with job seeking now. His prospects will be all the better if you are prepared to move to where the work is which I'm assuming would be the case since you have moved for work before.

Are there people temporarily supporting you both now or are you in dire straits? I'm surprised you feel annoyed with the posts so far as the posts I've scanned through seemed to have been supportive. Try to focus on those.

You're not an idiot for asking a simple question and expecting a simple answer. Your situation is complicated but at least your husband is doing his utmost to improve his chances of employment in the future.

Many people complain about long-term JSA claimants that don't do anything to help themselves but when someone is doing something to improve their chances, they'e getting slated !

Best of luck with your pregnancy...x

So it's not a degree? Is he eligible for finance for this course?
