So there's my April round-up. Fingers crossed the overdraft will be gone totally next month. I *think* this month is the first month I will stay in the black before payday, which is quite exciting, but that's only because of the extra savings/tax pot/Xmas fund etc. that's sat in my account.

Bit disappointed I've only paid £90 off Barclaycard this month. Mainly that's because I made a boob by paying too quickly last month, so what should have been my usual £100 payment from my wages was credited against March. I haven't made my £100 payment from April's wages yet, because I'm waiting until tomorrow so I can put that against my May payment. I haven't been very good with 63336 this month - only earned £180 - and I still want to be able to make £500 payments to hit my DFD. I suppose technically it doesn't matter WHEN I make the payments as they all add up to the same, but for the sake of my own signature... yeah, I'm leaving it until tomorrow!

I'll try and post more next month. In truth I've had a bit of a bad few weeks. I've been pretty down in the dumps for various reasons (not really money related for once, but it doesn't help) so haven't really felt like posting much. But I'm still plugging away, sticking to my budget, even if it did get stretched a bit fine last month (and I fear this month may be the same since it's only 5 days since payday and I'm already down to £12 in my "entertainment" budget. D'oh).

Oh well, onwards and upwards. It'll be worth it in the end.

Oh - tomorrow is annual pay review day at work :S Will find out if I'm getting a pay rise. Fingers crossed...

Hi Kim, under 4k is amazing! If you're not impatient, then I'd hang off paying the credit card until the 1st to give your May figures a boost. (I couldn't do it - I'm far too impatient).

Also wanted to say that's great about your new broadband deal - cheaper and £100 cashback :) Did you get everything sorted out with Orange?

    Thanks hun :)

I decided to be patient and wait, and I'll make my payment to Barclaycard tomorrow to boost my May figures. I'm going to need it this month I think :o

I've not sorted anything out with Orange yet! I need to phone them, haven't really had chance (that's a lie, I had all day Monday to do it but I totally forgot). I will though. I'm not letting them rob me of £10. They did call me about the broadband though, having received notice from Sky that I'm moving over, so I don't think I have to do anything else in that regard. I'm just worried I'm going to end up paying two lots of phone/broadband fees next month. We shall see.

    xx
  • Hey hon

I don't like to hear you've been down in the dumps so hopefully whatever's causing it will soon clear off & you can be your usual happy, positive self again. A big hug is wangling it's way over the airwaves to you! :) xx

Hope your pay review has gone well and you have extra in your packet soon.

Enjoy the rest of your day :) xx

  • Well, a new month is here. Can't believe it's May already.

Paid my £100 to Barclaycard this morning - signature duly updated!

Also found out today I'm getting a £750 pay rise. Not amazing, but better than nothing. Should be an extra £30-£40 a month so that'll certainly help!

Hope you all have a good day x

Thanks hun. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the extra money yet. It probably should go towards paying stuff off, but to be honest I'm really struggling at the moment so will probably up my grocery/"fun" money budget at the minute.

I've been beating myself up all weekend. Every week now this year I've done my weekly shop at Aldi and managed to stay within budget. Well this weekend I fancied a change, heard that Morrisons has reduced loads of prices and is now an "official competitor" of Aldi. And I kind of miss going to PROPER supermarkets, so thought why not! Ended up spending nearly £60. I was SO angry with myself. I don't even know what on. We got some alcohol, granted, that was about £12, and a 3 for £10 on meat.. but I still don't know how I managed to spend so much. I bought nothing for lunches at work! There's no 'snacky' things in the cupboards. I don't have enough left in my grocery budget for one more normal week now let alone the rest of the month so I'm going to have to take some money out of my savings pot, or when I get my 63336 payment, use some of that instead of paying off the OD :(

At least it's proved to me that going to Aldi DOES work. Certainly won't make that mistake again.

I'm just really struggling at the minute and kind of doubting everything a bit.

My overdraft is *technically* paid off now though, because my savings etc. are all in the same account my balance will stay in the black. So it's not really urgent to pay that off. It was a cert it would be totally gone by the end of this month, and now that's not looking likely I know I'm going to beat myself up.

It's hard because my boyfriend has a lot of money. He still lives at home and so has been saving for a long time. So when he's able to make random purchases of nice things he wants all the time, it makes me feel like !!!!!! because I can't do that. I'm also starting to get a bit upset he doesn't offer to help out with groceries most of the time anymore. Ok, he's only there half the week.. but pretty much anything I buy is for when he's there. I don't eat properly when it's just me! And anything "nice" I buy it's for "us" so I wouldn't want to eat it by myself. He knows I have some debt I'm paying off but we don't talk about it.

Oh. Everything's just so sucky lately and I don't even know why.

If I were you I would sit down and show him how much your debts are, how much you spend on food alone and how much you spend when you are feeding him. If he is able to contribute and doesn't after having full knowledge of your money situation then I would be seriously re-evaluating your relationship with him tbh. It seems v unfair that you pay to feed him when you clearly cannot afford to do so - and he is clearly financially in a much better position than you are.

It's probably not as bad as I made it sound. I was just venting. It's not like I pay for everything. If we eat out/have takeaways, he always pays, and he usually pays for days out and things, although usually I offer because I feel bad. I never ask him for any money for groceries, just because I hate asking for money and probably never will. I know if I did, he would help out. He probably doesn't even realise tbh.

I've just been a bit low lately so everything bothers me when it doesn't normally. I shouldn't use MSE as a place to vent my general frustrations.
  • Morning hon

It sucks doesn't it when you pay out everything when you have people stay and they don't offer to help out. I used to have this problem a few years ago when a friend of mine was at college near to my house for 2 days a week. As she lived 25 miles away in a mobile home she asked if she could stay here. Obviously I was fine about it until she started having the deepest baths known to men, ate all the food I prepared, watched what she wanted on tv, spent all her time on my land line and then started to invite her fella over! I was flippin' fuming and if I was on here then you'd all have known about it. I mulled it over and the next week decided to discuss it with her and she was totally oblivious to everything. The following week it was just us, she provided dinner and we had a good evening in together. We eventually settled on one providing dinner the other providing pudding.

The morale of this long winded story is that if your boyfriend doesn't know you'd appreciate some contribution he won't know that you're not happy. He may also feel that as he pays when you go out that's his share (you don't mention if he takes you up on your offer to pay).

I suspect that really you're just having a rah! moment because you've been feeling sh*tty lately and that if you were feeling fine you wouldn't have mentioned it.

Either way big hugs are flying over the MSE airways and wrapping themselves around you..........NOW! :) xx
