I have come off the work programme and now I'm with the job centre again. I had an interview with this old grumpy woman that seemed to have it in for me. She didn't treat me with any respect and was a lot harsher than the other advisor's :(. She wanted me to register to the jobcentre website(directgov) and tick the box that says it will track me. She also wanted me to upload my CV on there. I asked her since when did I have to do this and she aggressively made up some date and said as part of 'new rules' I have to do this. She said that I couldn't write down my job search activity and had to type it in on the direct gov website. She made me sign a lot of paper work and had me give her my email address, which reluctantly gave to her. She then said that if I didn't register to the website I would be sanctioned. I was also told that I have to start going to group sessions which she gave no details about even when I asked 'what is it' she just said it was a group session. I personally hate doing these as I don't like talking in front of groups.

Now I have my first group session coming up and I haven't ticked the box on the job centre website that tracks me. I have instead wrote down all of my job search details on paper. I have read that I don't have to tick this box and I really don't want to be tracked on that site as much of the jobs are spam and I have had my email spammed before from there. :(

What should I say to this evil lady when I go in? I just know that I will get sanctioned for not ticking that box to get tracked. _pale_

    Hi Spira.

Don't worry, you won't be sanctioned because you didn't tick them 2 boxes, its not mandatory. the advisor is lying to you.

Why don't you make a complaint against her to the manager?

I haven't given my advisor access as its not mandatory and he said, this is fine and he is not going to force me into ticking them 2 boxes.

It clearly states a few pages down and if you have a printer, print this out and show your advisor. :)

They have already forced me to give my email and direct gov gateway account number to them.

I feel she is going to sanction me anyway for no using the directgov website and uploading my CV among other stuff.

Is it part of your job seekers agreement that you have to sign up to universal job match? I think unless they do that, you don't have to. And you don't need to give them access.

I had something similar happen, I didn't want to sign up to the website for various reasons and obviously didn't want to the check boxes or log my job search through the website.

They tried to make it sound very much like it was mandorty and the interview coming off the work programme was much, much more intense than an average interview with the advisers.

I was passed over to manager at the jobcentre, who I had a long discussion with. I told him that I didn't want to sign up, because a lot of the jobs were fake and didn't believe it was safe to put my details on there. He asked me to provide examples of this, but said it wouldn't have any bearing on whether or not I had to sign up for the website.

I also expressed concern about a number of other data protection issues, which were dismissed with answers that didn't even make any sense.

I thought that it wasn't mandatory to sign up to the website so long as you used it, because all the jobs are publicly available anyway, you do not need an account to view them.

From what I understand now it did become mandatory to sign up to the website in the middle of last year. However it is still NOT mandatory to upload your CV, log you job search activity though the website, or check the box that allows them to monitor your activity.

I signed up with the absolute minimum or information, have not uploaded a CV and still provide my job search records on paper.

I don't know if this is related or not, but the next fortnight they told me my jobseekers agreement was out of data, and changed it to be very subjective. I now do not have any set critera to meet, i.e. number of jobs to apply for, number of phone calls to make, I just have to be deemed to be doing 'everything reasonable' to get a job. What that actually means I have no idea, I don't know how you can measure that.

This seemed a bit scary at first, but I haven't had any problems with yet, because I do put a lot of effort into job searching.

It sounds like you have done all the bits that are mandatory, signing up, giving them you gateway ID and e-mail address. You don't have to do the other parts, they will try to make it very difficult for you, just stand your ground.

I think that used to be the case, but not sure it is any more. Even if it was, how do you say that without calling attention to the fact? As soon as you say it, they simply add it to your agreement.

A requirement of receiving JSA is to register for UJ and to upload a public CV and profile.

There is no requirement to allow JCP staff access to your a/c. However if you do not allow access you could be ' directed' to provide evidence of a 'public CV and profile'. If you do not provide evidnce then your JSA claim could be sanctioned.

So just for 1 adviser meeting you could allow access and then immediately disallow access.

I would certainly discourage claimants' allowing JCP access to UJ a/cs.

Please be aware that as a Work Programme Completer your attendance at the jobcentre could well become increasingly more uncomfortable.

    All the best
