Yes, they still look interesting but it's really impossible to know when their fund range or prices and that of HL aren't known. Whether HL will respond positively to an invitation to accept a lower price and other terms sufficient to keep my business in spite of the negatives that help to cause leaving thoughts is also unknown.

was with a customer today who wants to retain UK and, most importantly to him, US shares in his ISA and is convinced that Hargreaves Lansdown are the best platform. his ISA portfolio is worth £100k+. if i can show him a better deal i will score some points:D
Point him to their foreign currency exchange rate commission details and note that they are really for ranges/up to amounts with the higher rate being paid for the first band of deal size then the next higher and so on until the total deal amount is reached. If he does much non-UK dealing he'll be paying them a small fortune in commission.
  • most brokers take a lot of FX commission on overseas share dealing. some are a bit cheaper than HL, though. see this round-up: http://the-international-investor.com/2013/isas-international-stocks-october-2013

thanks. Amazon are the retail stock i want to hold...so really i want access to US shares via my ISA too.

i am struggling for an alternative to HL that i can use to access UK Shares, US Shares and Funds via my ISA.

i like the look of BestInvest but no US share trading and it looks as though there may be further changes from them:think:

so, based upon just moving my ISA from HL to one of the above, and moving my SIPP separately...

iWeb looks interesting. but to hold both Shares and Funds i would need to open two separate accounts ie. both a Stocks & Shares ISA and a Funds ISA, is that right?

it looks as though III is a decent option...

beyond that i am struggling to get my head around it:doh:

several people with larger portfolios than mine are looking at Percentage Fee brokers, which i can't understand..

I opened a new ISA with iWeb this morning for transfer from HL. Took less than 10 minutes and opened immediately.

You don't need to open 2 separate a/cs for S&S and Funds. Can't remeber exact wording, but basically Funds only ISA is being phased out so just apply for the S&S one. If you apply for the Funds one, they'll open S&S anyway. Hope that makes sense :)

    thank you badger..
glad that iWeb opened up easily for you.
thank you for letting me know that you don't need separate accounts...it would be strange if they were to create that inflexibility.

so, you are saying that if you open an S&S ISA you will be able to move funds into it aswell as shares. i would be interested to know how you settled on iWeb as the best option for you. and why you have chosen to move to them from HL...i guess to avoid HL's 0.45%/annum charge.
