Nectar Cards - are they worth it?

  • It won't add up to much as an occasional shopper, but if you are spending money there anyway may as well collect the points. Eventually you could get £2.50 off your lunch or what have you!

I am a single person and do almost all 'big' shops at Sainsbury and even then I don't have enough points to redeem that frequently. As others have noted there are occasional good till spits.
  • So many printed offers at the tills.
    Spend £20+ for whatever.
They go in the bin because.
    I never spend £20 there ..
I shop in Asda for those amounts.
Or OF COURSE Aldi or Lidl.
I shop in Sainsburys at Sale times for clothes.
But it is handy being just down the road.
And I dont know how long it is since I used Nectar points.
Its certainly not worth special trips for the points.
I've a Tesco card,a Waitrose card (discounts + free coffee&free newspaper) Coop card, Costa card, use them when I'm there.

I love nectar points but don't go out especially to Sainsbury to get them..I took out a loan with them n got a great deal with the low interest and double nectar points every time I go shopping ..even with triple point spit so 5 times the amount!
The only problem with it is that if you lose or have your card stolen others can spend your points unless you are lucky enough to report it in time
im tray not davey...pinched my hubbys account!!!

I must stop buying smellies..well until i spot a bargain!
never turn a bargain /freebie down you just never know when you need it :D
  • I only ever use mine to buy diesel at my local BP station, get more points as i would use their BP Ultimate stuff!

Still need to register it though!
  • If I did not use nectar (or whichever ) then I would obviously not have £80 + to spend.

I always redeem my points when I get to 2000 points[£10],taking money off shopping.otherwise if you lose or leave card in store, someone else can easily take your points.
  • i use my nectar points to go towards my turkey every year, but having seen the bargains some people got this year by going out to buy their turkey on christmas eve i may take the risk and use them for something else....
    Car Boot Queen!!

Clothes Golden Rule: Never pay full price unless it is an utter bargain in the first place!
Sales, boots, charity shops, ebay- why would anyone ever pay full price for anything??!

I do my big weekly shop at Asda but do smaller shops at Sainsbury's during the week as there is one within short walking distance of where I live so do accumulate Nectar points. I also collect points when shopping online and through watching ads on the Nectar Adpoints website. Recently we went to Vue Cinema and I bought our tickets using the points. However, the card had to be swiped 8 times. The tickets came to £20.50 so the assistant had to swipe 500 points (£2.50) each time, then all I had to pay was 50p! :j

Last year, I picked up a trolley and a receipt was left in there. Me being nosy, I had a look and noticed the previous customer that used the trolley is a Nectar point millionaire!! I think their balance was £5100. Prob unaware of such a balance and may have more money on the nectar card than in their bank accounts!!! Judging the shopping bought - more likely to be an elderly person.

What's the point in collecting points when you are not going to use them?
