Nectar Cards - are they worth it?

Dear All,
I'm wondering whether it is worthwhile for me to get a nectar card. We occasionally shop in Sainsbury's and there is one close to my work.
So my questions are:
What are the rewards for having one?
How much have you gained from it?
Would you recommend it?
Thank you!!
(Still trying to figure out what to put in my signature!!)

As a member I am able to earn points on purchases other than at Sainsburys, for example Curry's, ebay and loads of other places. I then use the points to buy easyjet flights so it works for me.
Have you looked at the nectar website to see the benefits?0 -
For a freebie they are definitely worth it. You get points from a variety of places, this year I have had points from:
Ebay
Boux Avenue
Homebase
Currys
Argos
Dotcomgiftshop
Dorothy Perkins
Sainsburys
BP
and it's all been on things I was buying anyway.
My points for 2013 have bought me Amazon vouchers, Winter boots, a BBQ and sunlounger and the Christmas turkey.
I would really recommend it.0 -
Why ever not? It's definitely something for nothing.
I shop at Aldi and then a top up at Sainsbury's for a few favourites but a minimal amount each week. DH has the card linked up to ebay. We buy (when 25% off) most alcohol at Sainsbury's, occasionally on-line shop if it suits you better.
2013 had almost £100 of nectar points. No brainer.0 -
I spent my £103's worth of Nectar Points on my food shopping at Christmas, so of course it's worth it.0

The card number supplied has been blocked. Please try with a different card number or contact the Nectar Helpline on 0844 811 0 811
This is what you get when you think about spending it.
Complete and utter waste of time IMO.
Be happy...;)0 -
I've started collecting points via Ebay purchases but haven't considered spending any as yet.
I'm not likely to be spending any soon either because I found out two days ago that the bulk of my points balance has apparently mysteriously been converted into Ebay vouchers. That's Ebay vouchers that haven't gone into my Ebay account!!
I'm waiting for a reply from Nectar, but I won't hold my breath.
Just hope Nectar hasn't been hacked!0 -

That doesnt sound good.
Personally, I dont see the point in all these store cards, to me they are just a ploy to get you to be loyal to a particular Supermarket. I shop a lot at Aldi, it s just streight forward cheaper than the other ones, I like that.
I might consider a Waitrose card though. You get 10% off instantly plus a hot drink. Sounds a lot more substantial to me than the Nectar card or Club card where you have to spend ages first until you get some kind of reward. Sorry, I dont intend to sound harsh with this, if you like collecting points good for you. Im just not into that, but Im not saying I´d never ever change my mind about this.0 -

Just to clarify, you don't get 10% off everything, only on selected items. You do get a free newspaper if you spend more than £5. though (Mail or Telegraph), including the weekend, as well as your free coffee/latte/cappuccino (no spend required for this).0 -
yes love waitrose they randomly take 10 or 20% off even reduced items! get a free coffee, newspaper and their glossy magazines.
personally i have all the cards and just use the one for the shop i'm passing; but don't do complicated stuff! every little helps!0 -
You name it I have a card for it wheter its a discout card or a points card I am spending cash anyway so why not.I save my Nectar points and tesco points with my DD and we use them when we are away on holiday in August with the children for buying our food supplies.Last year we had around £160.00 odd between us which helps no end with our shopping bill for the fortnight fo 7 of us.As poster said why not I am loyal to none of the shops really and wouldn't go to one shop as opposed to any other ones I go where the prices are the best at the time0
