Modern electric heaters (not storage) and Immersion Boiler - Do I need Eco 7 deal??

OP I'd prepare youself for a nasty shock when you get your electricity bill.
Its the unit price thats fixed, you use more you will be charged more.

I would not be surprised if you have been using around £100 of electricity per month over the winter.

Lol, if you were shocked by the price of E7 storage heating (cheapest electric heating available), then you will probably be shocked by the price of flat rate electric heating (the most expensive electric heating available).

Get that bill ASAP, and start saving now. Expect £100+/month.

I'm sure you're in for a big shock when you get your bill. You need to find your tariff and start checking usage so you know what it's costing you.

We've got storage heaters so E7 and use 70% of our elec at night by running as much as possible overnight instead of in the day. I'm at home all day so it's great for us but unless you have storage heaters you're extremely unlikely to benefit from E7.

That really isn't so these days.


I have gas CH and choose to have E7, as do many on this forum.


With some tariffs you need less than 20% E7 consumption to benefit.


Much depends on how early you get up in the morning. Here(Midlands) E7 finishes at 07:30/08:30 GMT/BST and appliances/electric showers etc can be used before that time.


Also those with oil/LPG CH find it cheaper to use an immersion heater on E7 rates.

I stand corrected Cardew but I doubt the original poster would gain by E7 as with electric non storage heating the majority of units will almost certainly be used in the day and can't be transfered to nightime unless they want to be hot at night and freeze in the day.
Our day units are just over twice the price of the night ones.

The phrase modern electric heaters amused my warped brain, one wonders what is modern about them, as they will be no more or less efficient than the two bar electric fire that my mum has in the 1950's.

I doubt the OP is at fault there. So many websites are popping up selling these wonder new electric radiators, and that is exactly the kind of terminology they use to rob unsuspecting people.

It is shocking to think of the number of people who have been conned into ditching proper storage heaters for nothing more than a fancy looking oil radiator.

'German heaters' is another term that send a shiver down my spine.

Please people, get somebody independent to offer advice on these type heaters before parting with any money.
