First time haggler advice....

I'm coming up to the end of my first 12 month contract with Sky and, as I've never been in the position to do this before, I'm looking for some advice on what to expect when I call them up to haggle. I've read the haggling guides on here but basically I have the following package...
• Sky+ HD box with Entertainment Extra
• Broadband Unlimited
• Line Rental with Talk Weekends

and I pay about £51 a month. Realistically, what can I expect? I understand I'm not exactly a high spending customer. I'd also probably be willing to threaten, and go through with, cutting off the TV for a little while but not the internet (phone line I could also do without but need it for the internet).

You can expect minimal reduction unless you actually cease being a customer at all. No point just cancelling one of your services, to get the best discounts you have to cancel everything and mean it. It helps if you are able to access Virgin Media Cable services in your area.

I have just given a months notice to cancel the tv subscription and was not offered anything to stay.

I have kept the phone line as I pre-paid this a while ago and the broadband going for the time being.

I have every intension of letting the tv stop completely and will go without it for a couple of months max to see if any discounts come my way.

I have been told that the tv can be switched back on at any time without the need for another fixed term contract so it's not too bad.

You haven't left, that's why you haven't been offered anything to stay!!:D

I left sky one month ago and haven't had any sort of offer from them. How long have others waited before getting anything

Are your Marketing preferences switched to "off" in MySky? If so, you'll never get an offer…

Wish I could get Virgin here as would go back to them in a heartbeat - was with them via my parents from the CableTel days and find Sky crap in comparison.

That's interesting to read. I can't really deal with losing the internet whereas could happily give up the TV for a couple of weeks which is why I wasn't planning on threatening to leave completely.

A true money saver would simply go to another provider...

Looks like I'm stuck paying full price then. My phone line is paid with them until June.

Think will cancel my tv cancellation until June, then cancel the lot

Sounds wise if you want the maximum reduction, although you'll probably get offers to return to Sky TV well before June.
